The Scottish Premiership returns to Fir Park as Motherwell host Falkirk on Sunday 9th August, kick-off 3pm, with both sides fresh off top-six finishes in 2025-26.
Motherwell came fourth on 61 points last season and Falkirk sixth on 49, so this is a meeting of established top-six company rather than a mismatch. You will find more Scottish top-flight angles in our football tips, but here is where we land on Motherwell vs Falkirk.
Premium Tips
Motherwell start as 5/6 favourites and, with Falkirk having lost the bulk of last season’s forward line over the summer, we are happy to side with the hosts and their main man in front of goal.
| Premium Tip | Odds | Why we’re backing it |
|---|---|---|
| Lukas Fadinger to score anytime | 13/2 (Sky Bet) | Regular readers will be aware I successfully put up Lukas Fadinger to score last weekend at a massive 7/1. The key angle that he is now on penalty duty for Motherwell. He already has three goals this season after two in the Conference League qualifiers. Slightly shorter at 13/2, against Falkirk, I still make him a serious bet in the anytime scorer market. |
| Motherwell to win | 5/6 (with Betfred) | Falkirk beat Motherwell three times last season, so we are not getting carried away, but that Falkirk side has been picked apart up front. Five of their top six scorers from 2025-26 have moved on, leaving Ross MacIver and his three league goals as the senior man. Motherwell kept the meanest defence in the top six last term and have retained their key attackers, so at home, at 5/6, the Steelmen are our pick to make the stronger squad tell. |

How Motherwell go into the game
Motherwell were arguably the most miserly side outside the Old Firm in 2025-26. They conceded just 36 goals across their 38 games, the best record in the top six, and still carried plenty at the other end with 59 scored and 62 big chances created on their way to fourth and 61 points.
Tawanda Maswanhise drove that attack with 17 league goals, and with Emmanuel Longelo (eight) and Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (six) also still on the books, the Steelmen have kept the core of their scoring. As the new campaign gets going, that blend of defensive control and a reliable focal point makes them a sensible favourite on home turf.
How Falkirk go into the game
Falkirk finished sixth on 49 points in 2025-26 and were far from dull, posting 50 goals and 58 big chances created. The concern is at the back, where 62 goals conceded was the leakiest return of any top-six side.
The bigger issue for backers is personnel. Falkirk have lost the bulk of last season’s goals, with Barney Stewart (eight), Calvin Miller (seven), Benjamin Broggio (five), Brian Graham (four) and Kyrell Wilson (three) all moving on, leaving Ross MacIver and his three league goals as the most proven finisher in the squad. That is a lot of firepower to replace, and it is the main reason we lean towards Motherwell here.

Motherwell vs Falkirk head-to-head
| Date | Home | Score | Away |
|---|---|---|---|
| 02/05/26 | Falkirk | 1-0 | Motherwell |
| 04/04/26 | Motherwell | 2-3 | Falkirk |
| 03/12/25 | Falkirk | 0-0 | Motherwell |
| 18/10/25 | Motherwell | 1-2 | Falkirk |
Falkirk hold a striking recent edge in this fixture, winning three of the last four league meetings, including a 2-3 at Fir Park and a 1-0 at home late last season, with the other game a goalless draw. Motherwell will want to put that right on their own patch, and with the visitors’ attack rebuilt over the summer, the head-to-head record may carry less weight than it first appears.

Motherwell vs Falkirk score prediction
We expect Motherwell to boss the ball and territory, and while Falkirk showed last season they can be awkward opponents, their reshaped attack looks light for this trip to Fir Park. A controlled home win, with Maswanhise involved, is our call. Score prediction: Motherwell 2-0 Falkirk.
