A former Borussia Dortmund forward, Michael Rummenigge, has tipped a current Borussia Dortmund forward, Erling Haaland, to make a switch to Liverpool next summer.
The free-scoring Norwegian will have no shortage of suitors if he decides to leave the Ruhr Valley, with the 21-year-old continuing to find the back of the net in black and yellow at an unthinkable pace.
The English-born sharpshooter has a remarkable record of 62 goals in 62 games for BVB across all competitions which, combined with his age, has made him the hottest property on the market, with plenty of Europe’s swooning elite lining up to pounce for his signature.
Rummenigge, brother of Bayer Munich legend Karl-Heinz, believes the striker’s destination lies away from the Westfalenstadion next summer, and has even name-dropped Anfield as a possible future home for the generational star.
Barcelona and Real Madrid have naturally seen their names in the conversation, but recent financial troubles could hamper any prospects they have of trying to lure Haaland to La Liga, while Manchester City continue to prioritise Harry Kane this summer.
As such, Rummenigge believes Liverpool could be Haaland’s most likely destination in 2022, believing the forward will favour a move to the country where his father, Alf-Inge, plied his trade during his playing days, turning out for Leeds, Nottingham Forest and Man City.
Rummenigge told Sport1: “We’ll have to wait and see where he goes after this season.
“Real and Barca have financial problems so I could imagine him moving to England. His father used to play there too. I could well imagine Liverpool for Haaland.”
The German went on to analysis Haaland’s playing style, believing the Norwegian “goal machine” is already unmatched in terms of ability for a player his age, though he did pick out one flaw in his game which would otherwise make him the “perfect player”.
He continued: “Haaland is an exceptional phenomenon. Players like that only come along every 30 or 40 years.
“I don’t know what his career plans are, but for Dortmund it’s great that he’s still wearing the black and yellow jersey this season.
“He is an absolute goal machine, his opponents fly away to the right and left when he starts running. I’ve never seen anything like him at that age.
“The only drawback with a player of his size is his headers. He doesn’t score enough goals with his head. Otherwise, Haaland is a perfect player.”
