Feyenoord and Roma will renew hostilities when the Europa League resumes in the new year.
A meeting in the 2021/22 Europa Conference League final was followed by them squaring off in last season’s Europa League quarter-finals.

Feyenoord’s sole win came in the first leg of that aforementioned duel with Mats Wieffer scoring the game’s only goal. The Rotterdammers will be hoping Wieffer, now a seven-time Dutch international, will be available for the upcoming showdown but the 24-year-old is attracting growing interest.
The former Twente academy graduate joined the Rotterdammers in July 2022 from cross-city rivals Excelsior and has since built a tidy profile for himself. Wieffer played an instrumental role in Feyenoord winning the 2022/23 Eredivisie but chances of them retaining their Netherlands crown are waning given PSV Eindhoven’s incredible form. Peter Bosz’s men are perfect after the opening 16 games and find themselves 10 points ahead of Feyenoord at the winter break.
Despite this gap in points Wieffer continues to give a good account of himself and can be considered the league’s most complete central midfielder.
Mats Wieffer is the only player in Europe's top seven leagues this season with:
◉ 20+ interceptions
◉ 20+ tackles made
◉ 20+ aerial duels won
◉ 20+ touches in opp. box

It’s no surprise Barcelona, where compatriot Frenke de Jong calls home, are reportedly among his many suitors. The loss of Gavi will force the defending Spanish champions to dip into the winter transfer market.
This association was brought to Wieffer before Feyenoord entertained Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last month.
“I listened and read about the interest in me, but the truth is that I do not know a lot about this. Little more I can say”, he told a press conference. “I did not speak with Frenkie on this, he was not those days with us in the selection and did not send him any message of text, no.”
In the summer, Squawka suggested Wieffer as the dream replacement for Declan Rice. The Dutchman’s present deal in Rotterdam expires in June 2027.
