Turkey vs Spain prediction, stats, tips & team news

Turkey and Spain continue their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaigns when they face off at the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium on Sunday 7th September at 7:45pm (UK time). This is the second game for both sides in the shortened qualification group, featuring just four teams.

Over 1.5 Turkey goals (5/2 with BetMGM)

Spain have conceded at least two goals in each of their past five games across all competitions, whilst Turkey have scored two or more goals in four of their last five games. Both of these nations started their World Cup qualifying campaigns perfectly with Turkey picking up a 3-2 win against Georgia, whilst Spain Bulgaria 3-0. With both attacks looking potent, this could be a high scoring game and Turkey could well contribute to a good number of those goals.

Ferran Torres to score anytime (7/5 with BetMGM)

Ferran Torres has scored two goals in two league games for Barcelona ahead of the international break, netting against both Levante and Real Mallorca. This continues his good form for his domestic side, where he’s scored four goals in his last six games for them in all competitions. Torres also has been in fine form for Spain, scoring 21 goals in 49 games and he’ll be hoping to increase that tally as he wins his 50th cap for his country.

How both teams go into Turkey vs Spain

Turkey have only featured at two World Cups in their history, with very different levels of success. They were knocked out in the group stage in 1954 and the reached the semi-finals in 2002. But Turkey have been absent since. They suffered heartbreak four years ago, finishing second in their 2022 World Cup qualifying group behind the Netherlands — just two points behind the Oranje. Turkey were unseeded in the play-offs and drew Portugal in the semi-finals, losing 3-1. They started 2025 with three wins, sealing promotion to the Uefa Nations League A. But they were beaten by Mexico in June.

Their World Cup qualifying campaign started well, with Turkey picking up a 3-2 win over Georgia in their opening Group E game. They were 3-0 up and cruising so it’ll be a bit of a worry that they almost let that lead slip but grabbing the three points was the most important task and one they accomplished.

Spain will be looking to qualify for the World Cup for the 13th consecutive tournament. They’ve exited the last two tournaments in the last-16, with just two wins from their past eight World Cup matches. But La Roja haven’t had any problems in qualifying. They’ve lost just one of their past 66 qualifying matches, though that did come ahead of the 2022 World Cup. Spain have technically been unbeaten since March 2024, winning 15 of their 20 matches. But they did lose the Uefa Nations League final to Portugal on penalties in June.

Spain’s World Cup qualifying campaign got off to the perfect start, with a 3-0 win over Bulgaria. Spain found themselves three goals up within 40 minutes of the game and took their foot off the gas, limiting Bulgaria to just one shot on target in a real show of dominance.

Turkey team news

There are no real surprises in Turkey’s squad, with a lot of excitement surrounding Kenan Yildiz and Baris Alper Yilmaz. Arda Guler will be hoping to get one over some of his Real Madrid teammates.

Spain team news

Rodri and Dani Carvajal are back in the Spain squad after long-term injuries. Alvaro Morata is also still in the squad, despite only playing 44 minutes for Como this season.

Turkey vs Spain head-to-head

Spain have won their past three games against Turkey, the only matches played this century. They’ve also lost just two of their 12 meetings overall.
