Newcastle United go head to head with Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James’ Park as the Premier League returns on Saturday 13th September at 3pm.
Both sides will be looking to kickstart their seasons by recording a first league win. Both sides have struggled so far this season, accumulating just three points between them.
Newcastle to win and BTTS (2/1 with SBK)
Looking to get that first win of the campaign on the board, Newcastle will welcome the opportunity to face Wolves – a side they have beaten in each of their last four meetings at St James’ Park. Not only that, but their opponents have lost six of their last seven Premier League games. Although, the Magpies will be wary, having kept just three clean sheets from a possible 12 in all competitions (including friendlies).
Newcastle to score over 2.5 goals (7/5 with SBK)
Newcastle officially begin life after Alexander Isak, who finally completed his long-awaited move to Liverpool on Transfer Deadline day. Eddie Howe will be pleased the saga is over and firmly in the rear-view mirror of his side, who will want to show they have not been affected by the events of the past few weeks. This will be a good opportunity to do just that for the Magpies, who have found the net at least twice in each of their last five meetings with Wolves.
How both teams go into Newcastle United vs Wolves
The two teams have registered a combined two points after their opening three games of this Premier League season.
Both of them have gone to Newcastle courtesy of 0-0 draws against Aston Villa and Leeds United, which sandwiched a narrow 3-2 defeat by Liverpool.
The Magpies launch their Champions League return against Barcelona at St James’ Park on Thursday, and will want to warm the Toon Army up nicely with a positive performance here.
As for Wolves, their momentum at the back end of last season that clinched survival has certainly stalled.
Three defeats to start this season have left Vitor Pereira’s side at the foot of the table, having already conceded eight goals along the way.
Wolves did beat West Ham United in the EFL Cup, though, and will look to draw inspiration from that in their bid to get a first point on the board.
Newcastle United team news
Howe could hand debuts to new signings Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, though Anthony Gordon remains suspended following his red card against Liverpool. Joelinton could return from injury, while Jacob Ramsey should also be available despite limping off at half-time against Leeds but there are still doubts over the fitness of both players.
Wolves team news
Jorgen Strand Larsen – a target of Newcastle’s during the recent window – should be available for Wolves after a calf problem, as should Ki-Jana Hoever and Hugo Bueno. Pereira could also hand a debut to deadline-day signing Tolu Arokodare, but Leon Chiwome is a long-term absentee with an ACL injury.
Newcastle United vs Wolves head-to-head
Newcastle are unbeaten in each of their last seven meetings with Wolves, winning five of those – including each of the last three. All of these meetings have come in the Premier League, with Newcastle finding the net 12 times, compared to Wolves’ four goals.
