How both teams go into Newcastle vs Tottenham

Newcastle finally earned their first away league win of the season, ending a six match drought on the road with a dominant performance at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Malick Thiaw set the tone with a goal inside the opening minute and went on to score again, while Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade struck before half time to put the result beyond doubt.

The victory was an ideal response to their painful Champions League defeat to Marseille and lifted Eddie Howe’s side closer to the top half of the table. Confidence will be high again at St James’ Park, where Newcastle have won six matches in a row and scored at least twice in every one of those games. They have not lost a midweek Premier League fixture at home in 10 straight attempts.

Tottenham, in contrast, endured another bruising weekend. Fulham struck twice inside six minutes before Mohammed Kudus pulled one back, but the damage was already done. It was Spurs’ third defeat in a row in all competitions and their third in four Premier League outings, prompting angry reactions from the home crowd.

Their loss also equalled an unwelcome milestone, becoming their 10th league defeat at home in 2025. Despite stronger away form this season, Spurs travel to a venue that has brought them nothing but misery in recent years. They have lost six of their last seven meetings with Newcastle, including the last four, and have not taken a result at St James’ Park since 2021.

Newcastle team news

Kieran Tripper, Emil Krafth, Yoane Wissa, Sven Botman, and Nick Pope are all out for the hosts.

Tottenham team news

James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Dominic Solanke, Radu Dragusin and Yves Bissouma are all out for the visitors.

Season Form & Standings

2025/26 season to date: both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have nearly mirrored each other in results and underlying numbers, making this contest all the more intriguing. Both have 18 points from 13 matches, and sit 12th and 13th in the table respectively.

Conclusion

We expect Newcastle to win this clash, but with a rather short price in the win-draw-win market, we prefer two player-based bets. The first is Bruno Guimaraes to score or assist, while we also like the look of Nick Woltemade to record two or more shots on target.
