Two teams stuck in the Premier League‘s mid-table will meet at the Stadium of Light on Sunday at 2pm. Fulham sit just two points behind Sunderland, both leaking goals and struggling for consistency, but with neither side in real danger or with much to play for beyond pride and a top-half finish. It’s got the feel of a match that could go either way, but the numbers hint at a couple of edges if you look hard enough.
Best Bets & Predictions
| Our Prediction | Odds & Bookmaker | Confidence | Why I’m Backing It |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunderland to Win | 13/8 @ Bet365 (38.1%) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Fulham concede 1.54 per game, Sunderland have the better defensive record (1.15 conceded/game), more clean sheets (8 vs 5) and have lost just one game at home this season. The price implies 38% but I rate Sunderland’s true chance just north of 43% given Fulham’s defensive frailties. |
| Brian Brobbey Anytime Scorer | 9/4 @ Sky Bet (30.8%) | ⭐⭐⭐ | Brobbey has 5 goals in 1,132 minutes — that’s 0.40 per 90, so a goal every 225 minutes. Fulham’s defence is leaky and Brobbey’s underlying numbers are solid. 9/4 implies 31%, but his actual rate is closer to 36% if he gets his usual minutes. |

How both teams go into Sunderland vs Fulham
Sunderland sit one place and two points above Fulham in the Premier League table at this stage and they have been one of the real feel-good stories of the campaign. The Black Cats were tipped to struggle after winning the Championship play-offs last season but instead have been comfortably ticking along in mid-table and now sit in 11th place with nine wins, nine draws and eight defeats from their 26 matches played so far.
Regis le Bris’ men finally lost their long unbeaten home run in their last league game against Liverpool and it’s away from home where they have struggled at times this term, losing their last three consecutive league fixtures on the road and having not won away from the Stadium of Light in the league since a 1-2 win over Chelsea back in October. That won’t come into play this weekend though as the vociferous home support will be on side once again.

Fulham’s achievements often go a little unnoticed in the wider Premier League picture as the likes of Bournemouth and Brentford often get the praise for becoming top-tier stalwarts against the odds. But Marco Silva has managed to steer Fulham well clear of the relegation dogfight once again, despite only being able to bring in one player in the summer transfer window.
That being said, the Cottagers will be keen to put three points on the board this weekend as they come into the game on the back of three consecutive defeats in the Premier League. Silva’s men now sit in 12th in the Premier League, although their confidence will have been lifted by an away win at Championship outfit Stoke City in the FA Cup last weekend.
Sunderland team news
Bertrand Traore and Granit Xhaka are both likely to miss out for Sunderland.
Fulham team news
Tom Cairney and Sasa Lukic could both return from injury this weekend, although Cairney seems more likely to be involved.

Head-to-Head
Recent Meetings
These two have met five times in the last few years, with Fulham winning three, Sunderland one, and one draw. The last clash was a 1-0 win for Fulham back in November. Goals have been hard to come by – only once in the last five meetings have both teams scored more than once.
| Date | Score | Competition |

| 22/11/25 | Fulham 1-0 Sunderland | Premier League |
| 08/02/23 | Sunderland 2-3 Fulham | FA Cup |
| 28/01/23 | Fulham 1-1 Sunderland | FA Cup |

| 16/12/17 | Sunderland 1-0 Fulham | Championship |
Conclusion
Fulham’s back line is the soft underbelly here. The Cottagers have conceded 1.54 goals per game and xGA numbers that scream “fragile”. Sunderland aren’t the most clinical, but their defence is tighter, and Brobbey gives them a genuine threat up top. The price on the home win is just big enough to tempt me. I’m backing Sunderland at 13/8 with Bet365, and Brobbey anytime at 9/4 with Sky Bet if he starts. Not a game to lump on, but there’s enough value to make it worth a look.
