Man Utd facing an injury crisis? Solskjaer hopes for Pogba “miracle” ahead of Leicester City game

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he’s hoping for a Paul Pogba “miracle” as Manchester United’s injury crisis deepens.

The Red Devils face Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday but face the prospect of having up to eight first-team players missing from action.

How bad is Man United’s injury crisis? Five things to know…

  • Man Utd have made their worst start to a season since 1992/93.
  • They already had Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah out for Saturday’s game.
  • Jesse Lingard and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also face late fitness tests.
  • Anthony Martial has also been ruled out, while Solskjaer admits he needs a “miracle” for Pogba to be fit.
  • Pogba has created more chances (11) and provided more assists (2) than any United player this term.

Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah have all been ruled out by Solskjaer, who also confirmed Jesse Lingard and Aaron Wan-Bissaka face late fitness tests.
Now, French duo Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba have also landed on the treatment table with muscle and ankle injuries respectively, with Solskjaer admitting it will take a “miraculous recovery” for Pogba to feature on Saturday.

“Well treatment room’s been busy and still is so we don’t really know who’s going to be available,” the Norwegian said.

“There’s maybe Aaron, maybe Jesse and I think maybe that’s it from the ones that pulled out, but I can’t promise those two will be available either.

“Pogba won’t be fit unless he’s had a miraculous recovery overnight from yesterday to today or tonight to tomorrow. He’s not been ready to do 100 per cent training.

“We hope more can be ready for West Ham next week and Paul and Anthony are in that category. I think they’ll be ready for then and can’t say more than that really.”

Despite beating Chelsea 4-0 on the opening day of the season, United have made their worst start to a season since 1992/93 and are in desperate need of the three points against Brendan Rodgers side.

That won’t come easy, though, as the Foxes are one of just three teams – alongside Manchester City and Liverpool – to remain unbeaten in the new season so far.

“Everyone at Man Utd is confident in Solskjaer”

It’s been a tough start to the season for Solskjaer, whose honeymoon period has well and truly worn off since taking over at Old Trafford in December.

However, striker Marcus Rashford insists the Norwegian has the full backing of the United dressing room, revealing that the players are now starting to respond much better to his methods in training.

“Right now everyone’s confident in the manager,” Rashford said. “We might not be doing everything he’s telling us to perfection yet, but the initial response to his tactics, his training, has been phenomenal.”
