Liverpool get their Premier League title defence underway against Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday 15th August at 8pm. This is the opening game of the 2025-26 Premier League season and the start of Arne Slot’s second season in charge of Liverpool. The game will be broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports Premier League.
Mo Salah to score anytime (8/11 with Sky Bet)
Mo Salah has scored nine goals on the opening weekend of a new Premier League season. The Egyptian forward has always enjoyed the opening day of the season and we’re backing him to keep his incredible run going. He also ended the 2024-25 campaign as the league’s top goalscorer, scoring 35 goals overall.
Although his price may be slim this is a good chance to get the season off to a winning start at 8/11 with Sky Bet. Salah is expected to play a more central role this season, with Jeremie Frimpong being given the room to operate down the right hand side and this could lead to increase in chances for the 33-year-old.
Liverpool to win and over 2.5 goals (8/13 with Sky Bet)
Liverpool have won their past five games against Bournemouth. Four of those matches have seen at least three goals scored. Liverpool will want to get off to a quick start as they look to retain their Premier League title and Bournemouth could be put to the sword. Bournemouth have also seen their squad, particularly their back line, weakened this summer and that could really increase the pressure on Andoni Iraola’s side.

How both teams go into Liverpool vs Bournemouth
Last season couldn’t have gone much better for Liverpool in the league, especially given the expectations before the campaign. But now the pressure will be on the Reds to retain their crown. If they manage it, Liverpool will hold the record for most English top-flight men’s titles won on 21.
They start the season at home, and Anfield was a fortress in 2024-25. Liverpool won 14 of their 19 home league games last season, with 54.76% of their total points won at Anfield. Nottingham Forest were the only team to leave Anfield with all three points, while two of the four draws came after the title was already won.
Bournemouth will be looking to join the three clubs who have beat the defending champions on the opening day of a new season. The Cherries finished ninth in the Premier League last season after a bit of an up-and-down campaign. But there is promise under Andoni Iraola.
Bournemouth took 28 points on the road in the Premier League last season, exactly half of their total tally. The Cherries actually lost fewer games away from home than they did at the Vitality Stadium, with five defeats compared to seven. But they also won seven and drew seven on the road.
Liverpool team news
Ryan Gravenberch will be suspended for this game after being sent off on the final day of the 2024-25 Premier League season. Florian Wirtz will be hoping for a start in front of the Anfield crowd for his competitive debut.
Bournemouth team news
Lewis Cook serves the second of his three-match ban after a red card against Manchester City towards the end of the 2024-25 campaign. Enes Unal remains out with a knee injury.
Liverpool vs Bournemouth head-to-head
Liverpool have won their past five games against Bournemouth across all competitions. The Reds have never lost at home to the Cherries.
