“We need three new players” – Lewandowski bemoans lack of Bayern transfer activity

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has lamented the club’s lack of signings this summer and has now urged the Bavarian board to recruit swiftly.

The Bundesliga champions have thus far signed four new players but are yet to find replacements for wing duo Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Bayern’s business so far: Five key things to know…

  • So far, Bayern have spent £103m on a quartet of new recruits.
  • These include Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid and Benjamin Pavard from Stuttgart.
  • The likes of Robben, Ribery, Mats Hummels, Rafinha and James Rodriguez have all left this summer.
  • Lewandowski has urged the club’s hierarchy to make substantial inroads in the market.
  • Bayern have been heavily linked with Leroy Sane but Lewandowski has called for even more than him.

Niko Kovac has been exceptionally vocal about his aspirations to prise Leroy Sane away from Manchester City but, even if a move materialises, Lewandowski believes further signings are absolutely necessary.

“I think we need three new players,” he told Bild. “We lost three players in attack with Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and James, and so far we have not had a [proven] new signing in that area.

“We need another attacking winger – even if Sane comes. Perhaps a No.6 or a central attacker.”

Sane latest

The Sane to Bayern transfer saga has been one of the most long-winded this summer and has already caused much friction between City and the German outfit.

Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has already intimated that Pep Guardiola isn’t completely aware of the inner workings of City, while Kovac has been forced to apologise to the Catalonian for publicly declaring an interest in the 23-year-old winger.

The latest reports from Germany, according to Kicker, suggest that Sane is desperate to return to his homeland and complete a deal with the current Meisterschale holders.

Sane currently has two years remaining on his contract and it is believed Bayern would have to offer a fee north of £100m to secure his signature.
