Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s link with Scottish champions Celtic has been laughed off by his former assistant manager Steve Clarke.
The Glaswegian side secured their 50th Scottish League championship this month following a 3-0 thumping of fourth-placed side Aberdeen.

- The Scottish giants replaced Rodgers with former manager Neil Lennon on a temporary basis until the end of the season.

- Mourinho won three trophies in his first season with the Red Devils, lifting the Europa League, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.
- Steve Clarke worked with Mourinho in his first stint as Chelsea boss, overseeing Premier League and EFL Cup success.

Speaking to reporters about the possibility of his old colleague deciding to start a new managerial project with the recently crowned Scottish champions, Clarke couldn’t help but laugh at the idea.
Despite Celtic’s pedigree in Scottish football and their regular opportunities to compete in the Champions League, Clarke believes the club simply do not have the budget to accommodate the presence of Mourinho, who has worked at the likes of Real Madrid, Inter Milan and of course two of the Premier League’s wealthiest clubs.
Clarke said: “I did have a little grin.
“I’m not sure Jose would come to Scotland. He’d probably be looking to go to a more high-profile European league.
“And to somebody who is going to pay him a little bit closer to £12 million per year!”
Where next for Jose?
One thing is certain in the game today; there will always be a football club interested in the services of Jose Mourinho.
The 56-year-old has won it all including the Champions League twoce, six league titles across three different countries, and two Europa Leagues.
Now, the former United boss is after a new challenge and has admitted that ideally he wants to be in a new position before pre-season ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Speaking in March, Mourinho said: “What I have in mind is that I would like to be back in the summer, in June, for a new club, for a new pre-season.
“I know exactly what I don’t want – that’s the reason I’ve had to say no already to three or four different offers.
“And I know what I want in terms of, not a specific club, but the nature of the job, the dimension of the job. I know what I want and I’m going to be waiting for that.”
We will just have to wait and see where Mourinho ends up.
