Antoine Griezmann’s FM19 update on his Arsenal team is bad news for Alexandre Lacazette

Antoine Griezmann has provided another update of his Arsenal team on Football Manager 2019.

The Barcelona forward is a well-known admirer of the simulation series and has previously showed fans the team he built with chosen club Arsenal on the latest edition of the game.

Griezmann’s love affair with Football Manager: Five things to know…

  • Griezmann was pictured passing the time with Football Manager while on international duty with France in 2016.
  • It was believed he was managing Chelsea, with whom he was linked with at the time, but Griezmann later confirmed it was in fact Lyon.
  • Griezmann then posted pictures of his Marseille save in 2018.
  • April 2019 saw more updates, this time with Griezmann in charge of Arsenal.
  • And the Frenchman has provided a second update of his Gunners team, full of the game’s brightest players.

Posted in April, Griezmann’s matchday squad looked almost unrecognisable from the Arsenal team currently in action.

Only Alexandre Lacazette and Sokratis remained, with Griezmann opting for young stars such as Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong and Leon Bailey.

But if any fans were eager to find out how Griezmann’s save has been coming along, the Frenchman has provided another update from the year 2023.

Gone are any links to the real-life Arsenal with a completely new 23-man squad, as Griezmann continues to use a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Leading the line for the Gunners now is Brian Brobbey, a wonderkid on the game who currently plays for Jong Ajax, aged just 17.

He is backed up by Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix and Francisco Trincao – a 19-year-old currently playing for Braga B – a young attacking line which would keep Griezmann set for years to come.

Griezmann has kept his midfield pivot the same with De Jong accompanied by Gedson Fernandes ahead of a back four consisting of Andy Robertson, Raphael Varane, De Ligt and Belgian right-back Alexis Saelemaekers. They are backed up by Hasan, a possible ‘newgen’.

The Frenchman accompanied his team with emoji assessments of his players, including a brick wall for Hasan, crystal ball for De Jong and a heart next to Brobbey.

His bench is also one to envy, boasting the likes of Jonathan Panzo, Ruben Neves, Chris Mepham and Phil Foden.

Where’s Lacazette?

While many of Griezmann’s followers were excited to see who made it into the Frenchman’s 2023 Arsenal team, there were some wondering where their favourite stars were.

One of those was current Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette, who had previously led the line for Griezmann.

Replying to his compatriot, Lacazette asked: “Where am I?”

And it was then that Griezmann revealed he sold the lethal striker to Huddersfield for £23.5m after winning the Premier League, League Cup, Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Griezmann then went on to explain the deal was done because he needed money, but promised a statue would be built outside his virtual Emirates.
