The Toffees had a poor end to the previous campaign, failing to win any of their final seven games as they slid to a fifth consecutive bottom-half finish. But, boss David Moyes will look to get his side firing back into the top-10 after making some promising additions in the middle of the park.

Everton top Premier League Golden Boot contender: Beto

After benefiting from a full pre-season, the midfielder will hope to build on last year’s performances and become even more influential in Everton’s attacking play.

James Garner was deservedly voted the Everton Player of the Season in 2025/26 following a stand-out campaign, during which he made the most tackles (120) and interceptions (59) in the entire Premier League. The midfielder also chipped in with a couple of goals and seven assists, and even made his international debut. Garner did, however, show a different side to his game, racking up a whopping 12 yellow cards, which was the joint-most in the league.
Everton rising star: Tyrique George

Fans will demand more, much more, from Tyler Dibling this season but its fellow 20-year-old winger Tyrique George who could prove to be the club’s breakout star. Everton have made George’s loan move permanent after he spent the second half of last season at the club. George has plenty of potential and could be handed an early opportunity to establish himself in the starting XI, particularly if Everton are unable to bring Jack Grealish back to the club. If he can take that chance, George could be one of the Premier League’s most intriguing young players to watch this season.
Everton 2026 summer transfers
Everton have made a couple of astute purchases in midfield. Hayden Hackney, who was named the Championship Player of the Season, has arrived from for Middlesbrough. Hackney had 12 goal involvements, created 85 chances, had completed 855 final third passes for Boro last season.
Premier League winner Christian Norgaard has been snapped up for a bargain £7m. The Dane may not have played an overly pivotal part in Arsenal’s 2025/26 title success, making just seven appearances, but he brings a wealth of Premier League experience, proven leadership, and a well-rounded skill set in midfield.
Winger Tyrique George has signed a permanent deal worth £24m from Chelsea after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Everton, as has Merlin Rohl from SC Freiburg.
Veterans Idrissa Gana Gueye and Seamus Coleman both departed after their contracts expired. Jack Grealish has returned to Manchester City following the conclusion of his loan spell, but there are reports that he could return to Everton so watch this space.

Everton have strengthened their midfield by signing experienced Premier League winner Christian Nørgaard and Championship Player of the Season Hayden Hackney. These two editions will give David Moyes greater quality, depth and know-how in the engine room. Moyes does, however, now face a tough decision over who partners James Garner in central midfield.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall looks set to occupy the attacking midfield role after an impressive debut season. Further forward, Beto currently holds the edge over Thierno Barry in the race to lead the line, while Iliman Ndiaye should start on one wing. Moyes still has a decision to make on the opposite flank, with Tyrique George, Merlin Rohl and Tyler Dibling all competing for a starting berth. Many Everton fans will also hope Jack Grealish returns following the end of his loan spell.
Jordan Pickford remains the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, protected by James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite in central defence. Vitalii Mykolenko will stay as left-back, while Jake O’Brien should continue on the opposite side.
Everton manager analysis
Supporters appear to be split on David Moyes, who initially seemed to be making steady progress at Everton last season. However, a poor end to the campaign undermined that progress, with the Toffees slipping to a disappointing 13th-place finish for the second successive season.
Moyes has his doubters, and another slow start this term could see the number of critics grow. After all, he is currently only contracted until next summer. Fans will want to see more ambition and attacking impetus, which could come after Moyes made some positive additions in midfield and secured permanent deals for wingers George and Rohl. This has fuelled optimism that Everton could have the tools to step it up a notch in attack and push for their first top-10 finish in six seasons.
