Notable Events
Arena AufSchalke, Gelsenkirchen is one of the newer stadiums hosting games at Euro 2024, opening in 2001. It was used at the 2006 World Cup, hosting five matches including the famous quarter final match between Portugal and England where Wayne Rooney was shown a red card and the Three Lions crashed out on penalties.
The stadium has, apart from hosting Schalke’s home games, mainly been used for other sports, with the 2007 and 2008 Speedway Grand Prix, 2010 Ice Hockey Championships and 2018 German Darts Masters all taking place at the ground.
