Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has revealed he would be keen on returning to Old Trafford at some point in the near future.
The former Dutch goalkeeper is currently CEO of Eredivisie champions Ajax but insisted a reunion with the Red Devils was far from out of the question.

- He went on to win three Premier League titles.
- Van der Sar was also the penalty shootout hero to help Manchester United win the Champions League in 2008.

- Van der Sar’s last game saw him become the oldest player in a Champions League final at 40 years and 211 days.
Speaking to Planet Futbol, Van Der Sar was quizzed on his future and revealed that he holds Manchester United in very high esteem.
He said: “Besides my family, my wife and kids and everything I have two loves in my life.
“That’s Ajax, who gave me the opportunity to develop: they scouted me, they gave me the chance to shine in the world of football.
“And the last club of my career (Manchester United) also gave me a lot of attention, recognition and everything, developed at a later stage. And of course, I’d be interested in a position.
“But I need to learn a little more here [at Ajax], develop myself further and eventually let’s see what the future brings.
“United is a fantastic club, there’s a great following all over the world. Everybody wants to play for them and eventually, work for them.”

Are Man Utd more attractive than Ajax?
Manchester United are widely regarded as one of the biggest clubs in the world. Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, aided by Van der Sar, was one of the most successful in history and guided them to the pinnacle of world football.
However, they have not won a league title since 2013 and find themselves in mid-table as the Premier League season is beginning to take shape. Damaging defeats to Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Newcastle United have seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer come under fire from fans and the media alike.
Ajax, on the other hand, are flying. They may have lost Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong over the summer but they are unbeaten at the top of the Eredivisie and lead their Champions League group having been seconds away from the final of last season’s competition.
Erik ten Hag is doing a phenomenal job in Amsterdam and his name has been mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Solskjaer should he leave Manchester United. If the managerial merry-go-round gets going again, we could see Van der Sar hop on board.
