Former Italy star Antonio Cassano has joined Instagram, but not everyone thinks it’s a good idea.
Fantantonio created his official Insta account earlier this week and generated more than 200,000 followers in less than 24 hours, including a wave of responses from some of his ex-teammates, including Gianluigi Buffon, Lorenzo Insigne, Demetrio Albertini and Ciro Ferrara.
The 39-year-old has rarely shun the spotlight since hanging up his boots with some of his punditry work dividing opinion and garnering attention. Back in August he claimed he met Jorginho on the beach during a holiday and told him it would be a “scandal” if he won the 2021 Ballon d’Or over Lionel Messi.

There are many such examples of Cassano making bold statements. He told Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel Bobo TV that “selfish” Cristiano Ronaldo is not among the top five greatest players of all-time, while he also said he would drive Romelu Lukaku to London personally if the £97.5m fee being bandied about in the summer was a true figure prior to his eventual move from Inter to Chelsea.
Given his history with outspoken comments, former Roma and Italy teammate Daniele De Rossi has joked that Cassano could get into a bit of trouble, tagging his wife, Carolina Marcialis, into a post and suggesting she should start looking into lawyers already.
The caption read: “Call 12 or 13, as many as you can, because this donkey will get arrested in less than a week on Instagram.”

Cassano and De Rossi spent five years in the Eternal City together after the former joined from Bari — where he earned the moniker Il Gioiello di Bari Vecchia (“the jewel of Old Bari”) — before he left for Real Madrid, but they continued to link up at international level.
De Rossi, for his part, spent most of his career at Roma, eventually leaving the club for Boca Juniors in 2019, where he played just a handful of games at La Bombonera before bowing out.
