Canada vs Uruguay Copa America live stream, confirmed team news and predicted XIs

Canada will take on a bitterly frustrated Uruguay in Charlotte, North Carolina, in the early hours of Sunday morning as the teams battle to secure third place at the Copa America.

Reaching the final four was an achievement for Canada, who have performed above expectations in its first appearance at the tournament.

But the Canucks will need to get over the disappointment of losing 2-0 to Argentina in their semi-final in East Rutherford.

Uruguay bowed out of the competition with a 1-0 loss to Colombia, and they will have to try to reset in time for this weekend’s fixture at the Bank of America Stadium, which kicks off at 01:00 UK time on Sunday.

Disappointed duo can look back on some strong performances

Canada are coming to the end of their first Copa America and they can look back with immense pride on what they have achieved.

Jesse Marsch’s side might have been a little apprehensive as they approached their first major tournament since losing all three matches at the 2022 World Cup and they got off to a slow start in Group A, losing 2-0 to Argentina.

However, they responded with a 1-0 victory over Peru, thanks to Jonathan David’s second-half goal, and wrapped up second place in the section with a nervy 0-0 draw against Chile.

Reaching the knockout rounds was a great achievement and Canada went a step further with a penalty shootout success over Venezuela in the quarter-finals.

They were unable to spring a surprise against Argentina this week but were far from outclassed – losing the shot count 11 to nine.

Uruguay impressed in the group stage with victories over Panama (3-1), Bolivia (5-0) and USA (1-0).

Then they got the better of quarter-final opponents Brazil, drawing 0-0 and winning 4-2 on penalties.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side faced another tough test against Colombia in the semi-finals and succumbed to a 1-0 defeat despite playing the entire second half against 10 men.

Canada vs Uruguay team news

Canada winger Tajon Buchanan suffered a broken leg in training and had to withdraw from the squad.

Alphonso Davies is a doubt after coming off during the semi-final loss to Argentina and his absence could lead to a rejig with Richie Laryea dropping to left back and winger Liam Millar coming into the side.

Uruguay defender Guillermo Varela is suspended after his red card against Colombia and midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur seems certain to miss out after suffering an injury during the same game.

Nahitan Nandez is free to return at right back after completing a one-match ban and Darwin Nunez is available to play despite his involvement in ugly scenes after the final whistle in the early hours of Thursday morning.

An investigation into the brawl will not take place until next week.

Canada vs Uruguay predicted line-ups
