A look at the odds for both matches suggests a Manchester derby to decide the winner of the competition is the most likely outcome. Sportsbook CopyBet have Pep Guardiola’s City side at 46/100 to defeat Chelsea on Saturday and Erik ten Hag’s United team at 1/2 to see off Championship Coventry City on Sunday.
But if recent results in the Premier League are anything to go by, there’s no such thing as a sure fire bet this season. Chelsea fans will rightly point to the fact that they are unbeaten against City so far this season, drawing both their league encounters. Another stalemate after 90 minutes on Saturday evening is 7/2 while a repeat of the incredible 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge is a whopping 300/1.
One man who will be eager to make a mark in the match is Cole Palmer. The former Manchester City man has been an absolute revelation for Chelsea this season, netting 25 times in all competitions, including four times in the Blues last game against Everton. The 21-year-old is 12/5 to score anytime and 7/1 to be first scorer.
In the second semi final, Championship Coventry City will have plenty of supporters as the underdogs against Manchester United and the Sky Blues will be full of confidence after knocking out Premier League
Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Quarter Final stage. Mark Robins’ men are still in the hunt for a play-off place in the Championship but after three defeats in their last four games, it might be fair to say that their attentions have already turned to this showpiece fixture.
Erik ten Hag will have warned his side of the threat posed by Coventry’s towering centre forward Ellis Simms and rightly so given the 23-year-old has scored five times in his last two appearances in the competition. Simms is 3/1 to add to that tally at anytime during the 90 minutes.
United start the game as strong favourites though and anything less than progress through to the final would be seen as a massive failure at this stage. Red Devils’ captain Bruno Fernandes is a man in form with four goals in his last three games and the Portuguese international is 9/5 to find the net again in this one.
