Marcus Rashford continued his fine run of form in the Premier League, opening the scoring in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City.

The Englishman started the 2019/20 campaign brightly scoring twice in United’s 4-0 rout of Chelsea but had seen his goalscoring abilities questioned.

Just one goal followed in his next seven Premier League games as he switched between playing on the left wing and through the middle.

Rashford equals his best ever Premier League tally: Five things to know…

  • Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City.
  • It took the Englishman to 10 Premier League goals for the season.
  • Rashford has never scored more than 10 in a single Premier League campaign, also reaching that number in 2018/19.
  • The United forward is the fourth player to score 10 Premier League goals this season.
  • Four of Rashford’s 10 goals have come from the penalty spot.

However, he has since hit form, scoring seven goals in his past eight games, only failing to score twice in that run. It started with a goal against Liverpool in United’s 1-1 draw, the only points that Jurgen Klopp’s side have dropped in the Premier League this season.

Norwich City came next before a blank against Bournemouth, which United lost 1-0. Goals against Brighton and Sheffield United were followed any a second blank at home to Aston Villa at the start of December.

But, once again, Rashford returned to scoring ways with a brace against Tottenham Hotspur as United defeated former boss Jose Mourinho. And in other big game just days after, Rashford found the net once more, opening the scoring against Man City.

It was his 10th Premier League goal of the campaign, equalling his best-ever single-season tally in the competition having also reached that number last year.

Rashford is also just the fourth player to hit 10 Premier League goals this season, three of whom have been English including the United man.

Jamie Vardy was the first to hit the mark and leads the way with 14 in total, joined by Tammy Abraham on 11 and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with 10.

Big-game specialist

As well as taking him to 10 Premier League goals for the season, Rashford’s penalty against Man City also extended his impressive run against teams in the ‘Big Six’.

The Englishman has played 42 games against United’s Big Six rivals across all competitions, scoring 16 goals in total.

Chelsea are his favourite opponents with five goals in 10 games, four of which have come this season. Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have all shipped three to the Englishman with Rashford adding to his tally against each of them this season.

Arsenal have the best record against Rashford conceding just twice, both of which came in his Premier League debut in February 28, 2016, a 3-2 win for United.
