Liverpool transfer news: White, Coady, Mings favourites for January window
Liverpool enter the January Transfer Window linked with a string of potential defensive reinforcements.
Manchester United have closed the gap on their arch-rivals in the early days of 2021 with cries growing louder for the Premier League champions so strengthen at the back after a string of injuries.
Both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have been ruled out for the majority of the season with Joel Matip also expected to be sidelined for the next three weeks.
Fabinho remains the club’s sole senior option at centre-half with youngsters Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams also drafted in – even skipper Jordan Henderson has dropped back to provide defensive cover.
The Reds are still at the summit of English football but with the chasing pack closing the gap, fans and pundits alike have urged Jurgen Klopp to turn to the window to solve the predicament.
Liverpool were among the clutch of clubs strongly linked with a move for Brighton starlet Ben White during the summer following the 23-year-old’s superb loan spell at Leeds in the Championship last season.
Klopp’s side are currently priced at 3-1 with Sky Bet to sign White before the January transfer deadline.
Conor Coady, a former Liverpool academy starlet who left the club without making a senior appearance, is another name in the frame. The Wolves skipper is currently priced at 4/1 to make an emotional return to Anfield.
Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings meanwhile is 5/1 to join Liverpool this month with Burnley’s James Tarkowski an outsider at 6/1.
Attacking additions may have to wait until the summer but Liverpool remain second favourites to sign Kylian Mbappe should the France star leave Paris Saint-Germain. The Reds are priced at 9/1 to sign the forward behind Real Madrid (7/1).
Dele Alli continues to struggle for game time at Tottenham and while Paris Saint-Germain are strong favourites to sign the midfielder (4/7) with Mauricio Pochettino now officially at the helm, Liverpool are an outsider at 16/1.
