Kylian Mbappe has been caught up in a transfer storm this week and has now taken to social media to personally set the record straight.

A leaked letter sent to PSG from Mbappe last year surfaced on Monday, in which the French forward declared his intentions not to renew his contract beyond 2024.

In response to the leak, Mbappe released a statement through AFP on Tuesday reiterating that PSG have known about his desire not to extend his present contract for nearly 12 months.

He added that “the only aim of the letter was to confirm what had already been spoken about previously”, while saying no renewal talks have ever taken place.

The statement read: “I have never discussed any contract renewal with PSG.

“The board has been informed since July 15th, 2022 of my decision not to extend beyond 2024 — and the letter sent was only meant to confirm what I already told them”.

PSG have since responded in this frantic, back-and-forth affair, saying:  “It is emphatically untrue to say Mbappe’s team have not been involved in renewal discussions.”

And in the latest twist to this growing transfer saga, Mbappe has denied claims that he is set to join Real Madrid this summer, describing the rumours as “lies” on social media, while also saying , he is “very happy” with PSG.

The tweet read: “Lies . . . I have already said that I will continue next season at PSG where I am very happy.”

The suggestion now is that Mbappe will go into the 2023/24 season with PSG, but with the intention of leaving next summer on a free transfer.

According to The Times, the French champions won’t allow their most valuable asset to leave for nothing at the end of next campaign — meaning they could be forced to sell.

That could spark a bidding war this upcoming transfer window as Europe’s leading lights scramble to secure one of the world’s best current players.

The likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester United have all shown an interest in the French sensation over the years.
