Kylian Mbappe has revealed he’s held discussions with Liverpool over a potential move on two occasions during his still fledgling career.

The 23-year-old recently ended fervent transfer speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid by signing a new contract at PSG.

His previous deal was set to expire at the end of the campaign and rumours were rife that he was on the verge of completing a switch to the Bernabeu.

Considered a two-way tug-of-war between the Parisians and Los Blancos, Mbappe has now revealed another name was in the mix for his signature.

The French forward says Liverpool were also vying for his services, and he even held talks with the Anfield club — the second time in his career.

He told the Telegraph:We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit.”

Mbappe divulged further details about his discussions with the Reds, saying that he also spoke to the club during his formative years at Monaco as well.

Then a precocious teenage talent, Mbappe rose to meteoric prominence on the French Riviera during the club’s Ligue 1 title win in the 2016/17 season.

His form at the Stade Louis II sparked mass, continental interest in him, and although PSG ultimately won the race for his signature, Liverpool were certainly among the leading candidates to snap him up, particularly as his mother is a fan of the club.

He added: “I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her.

“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”

Mbappe’s comments come after Klopp revealed his admiration for the forward, though he ultimately conceded Liverpool can’t match the financial power of PSG.

When quizzed earlier this month on whether Liverpool were interested in Mbappe, Klopp told reporters: “Of course we are interested in Kylian Mbappe, we are not blind.

“We like him and if you don’t like him then you have to question yourself. But, no, we are not, we cannot be part of these battles.

“There must be other clubs involved and that is fine. He is a great player.”
