Jasper Cillessen fears Barcelona’s transfer valuation of him will put off potential suitors this summer.

The 30-year-old Dutch goalkeeper has effectively been Marc‑Andre ter Stegen’s understudy since joining the La Liga giants from Ajax in 2016.

Cillessen at Barça: Five key things to know…

  2. He’s since gone on to make 32 appearances in all competitions.
  3. However, the majority of those have come in Cup competitions.
  4. Cillessen has made five La Liga appearances, keeping one clean sheet.
  5. His current deal at the Camp Nou expires in June 2021.

To date, he has played 32 times, with the majority of his appearances coming in the cup competitions, and Cillessen – whose present contract expires in June 2021 – is understood to be open to a change of scenery.

Despite being a number two for Barça, he’s the Netherlands’ undisputed number one having made 18 appearances for the national team whilst representing the Spanish champions.

However, with over two years left on his deal the Catalan giants are keen not to lose him on the cheap this summer, which Cillessen feels could impact is future.

“The fact that Barcelona ask for £53m for me does not help anything,” he told VTBL.

“I still have to wait and see what happens in one of the top five European leagues. [A decision] will only be taken after the holidays.”

Since joining Barcelona, the Nijmegen-born footballer has featured across 32 matches in three seasons with all but 24 of those appearances coming in the Copa del Rey.

From those outings, Cillessen, who has 48 international caps under his belt with the Netherlands, has kept 14 clean sheets (0.44 per game) and conceded just 25 goals (or one every 115 minutes).

Cillessen has made five La Liga outings with three of those coming this season.
