Ibrahim Sangaré extends PSV stay amid Premier League interest
Ibrahim Sangaré has reaffirmed his commitment to PSV Eindhoven by penning a new deal which keeps him at the Dutch powerhouse until 2027.
The much-wanted 24-year-old defensive midfielder joined from Toulouse in 2020 and has since gone on to make 89 appearances for De Boren in all competitions subsequently registering five goals and created six more.
During his Eindhoven stay he courted attention from a host of Premier League clubs notably Everton, Southampton and West Ham with good reason, Sangare ended the 2021/22 season with more tackles and interceptions combined (169) than any other Eredivisie-based player, but the Ivorian international believes his short-term future is best served under Ruud van Nistelrooy’s guidance at the Philips Stadion, signing a new two-year contract extension.

“I have felt at home since the first day, the way I am received and how people treat me makes me very happy,” he told the club’s official website.
“I want to become champion with PSV and reach the UEFA Champions League.”
Sangaré’s agent Jean Musampa added that he will in principle remain with PSV unless a European superclub comes with an offer PSV cannot refuse. “He will not go to an Everton, a Southampton, a Crystal Palace or a Nottingham Forest,” he told ESPN before revealing his buyout clause, rumoured to be €37m, will come into effect again from the summer of 2023.
It’s been four years since PSV last played Champions League group stage football. The former European Cup holders are halfway through a third qualifying round tie against Monaco; both clubs head to a second leg meeting in Eindhoven with the score tied at 1-1, Joey Veerman would put Van Nistelrooy’s men ahead before Axel Disasi equalised late on.
On the domestic front PSV began their championship quest with an emphatic 4-1 win over FC Emmen. Johan Bakayoko and Cody Gakpo — another much-wanted man — got on the scoresheet. Gakpo registered a brace while Maikel Kieftenbeld unfortunately put the ball into his own net. Sangaré was an unused substitute expectedly rested for the visit of The Monégasques on Tuesday evening.
