World Cup 2026 Stats Day 10: Germany chase 11th straight win

We’re only just into the second week of World Cup 2026 but countries have already been busy booking their places in the knockout stages over the last couple of days, with co-hosts Mexico and the United States through to the last-32.

Attention now diverts to Group E and Group F, with the potential for more teams to join the above duo in the next stage of the tournament.

Saturday evening pits Netherlands against Sweden at 6pm (all times UK time), followed by Germany against the Ivory Coast at 9pm. We then see Ecuador lock horns with Curacao at 1am on Sunday morning, with Tunisia vs Japan rounding off the action at 5am.

Read on for all the latest World Cup 2026 stats for day 10.

Netherlands vs Sweden

  • Netherlands snapshot stat: If Oranje (98 goals) score two goals they will become the eighth country in World Cup history to reach the 100+ goal milestone.
  • Sweden snapshot stat: Sweden are aiming to win their opening two World Cup group games for the first time since finishing runners-up on home soil in 1958.

The Netherlands were unable to get all three points against Japan, despite twice taking the lead, as they settled for a 2-2 draw.

It did, however, extend their remarkable unbeaten World Cup run to 13 games – excluding penalty shoot-outs – which they can now stretch to a 14 games should they avoid defeat against Sweden in Houston.

Not only will the Netherlands be chasing the win but should they score two goals they will become the eighth country in World Cup history to reach the 100+ goal milestone.

Sweden’s journey to the World Cup has been well documented, but they raced out of the traps upon their arrival, sweeping aside Tunisia 5-1 in their opening game.

The Swedes will now be bidding to win their opening two group stage matches for the first time since 1958 when they hosted the tournament and finished runners-up.

Viktor Gyokeres of Sweden celebrates goal in the World Cup 2026 qualifier match between Sweden and Poland at Strawberry Arena on March 31, 2026 in Solna, Sweden.

Germany vs Ivory Coast

  • Germany snapshot stat: Germany go hunting for their 11th win in a row.
  • Ivory coast snapshot stat: The Elephants could win two matches at a single World Cup for the first time in their history.

Germany headed into the 2026 World Cup having failed to reach the knockout stage in 2018 or 2022. However, despite briefly drawing 1-1 to new boys Curacao, the four-time winners went on to steamroll their Caribbean opponents 7-1, which saw them overtake Brazil as the tournament’s all time scorers. However, Brazil regained this title following a 3-0 win over Haiti, with Germany now two goals behind.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side will now look to secure their eleventh win on the spin – their best winning run since 1980 – which would be the first time that they’ve won their opening two group stage games in 20 years. A reminder that if Germany win against the Ivory Coast they will advance to the last-32.

Ivory Coast left it late to burst the Ecuador bubble, with Manchester United winger Amad Diallo netting a 90th minute winner which inflicted a first defeat upon their South American opponents in 20 matches.

The Elephants have never escaped the group stages in three previous attempts but they will reach the knockout stages if they upset Germany in Toronto.

Ecuador vs Curacao

  • Ecuador snapshot stat: There have been under 2.5 goals in 19 of Ecuador’s last 23 games.
  • Curacao snapshot stat: Could become the first CONCACAF country to win one of their opening two World Cup games in their first tournament since Costa Rica in 1990.

Ecuador headed into the tournament on the back of 19 games unbeaten and a second-place finish behind holders Argentina in qualifying. However, they were struck by the curse of the ‘dark horses’ as they got rocked by a 90th minute Ivory Coast goal in their opening game to suffer their first loss in 20 games.

There have been under 2.5 goals in 19 of Ecuador’s last 23 games, but this game does give Ecuador the potential to flex their attacking muscles, with Curacao conceding 18 goals in their last four games.

Curacao scored their first ever World Cup goal – Livano Comenencia – and held Germany at 1-1 for 17 minutes, before the flood gates opened and the Germans ran riot in a 7-1 win. Dick Advacaat, who is now officially the world Cup’s oldest ever manager, is now looking to pick up the country’s first ever points on Sunday morning as the Blue Wave bid to become the first CONCACAF country to win one of their opening two World Cup games in their first tournament since Costa Rica in 1990.

On the other hand, if Curacao concede 3+ goals against Ecuador, they will become the fourth country to concede 10+ goals in their first two matches after Haiti, DR Congo, and South Korea.

Tunisia vs Japan

  • Tunisia snapshot stat: New boss Herve Renard will manage in a third straight World Cup with a third different country after he replaced Sabri Lamouchi four days ago.
  • Japan snapshot stat: Japan are unbeaten in eight matches, during which they’ve beaten Brazil and England, and drawn to the Netherlands.

Finally, we move onto the Estadio Monterrey which hosts Tunisia vs Japan, both of whom are chasing their first win of the tournament.

Tunisia savagely sacked their manager Sabri Lamouchi after their 5-1 defeat to Sweden, and appointed Herve Renard, who himself was sacked by Saudi Arabia in April, just months before the tournament. The Frenchman will now appear in his third straight World Cup with a third different country, having led Morocco in 2018 and Saudi Arabia in 2022.

Herve Renard Tunisia

Japan will be looking to build on their 2-2 draw against the Netherlands, which stretched their unbeaten run to eight matches since October, during which they’ve beaten both England and Brazil. They have conceded in just one of their last six games and have beaten Tunisia to nil in five of their six meetings.

Koki Ogawa of Japan scores the 2-2 during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group F match between the Netherlands and Japan at Dallas Stadium on June 14, 2026, in Arlington, United States.
