Premier League stats and records you might see in Gameweek 14

We’ve barely had time to digest the drama from the weekend’s matches before we skate on into December, which brings a rare treat of 10 midweek Premier League matches, from Tuesday to Thursday.

The upcoming games could well produce some key storylines, from Sunderland chasing their first win at Anfield in their last 19 visits to Ruben Amorim potentially becoming the fastest manager in Manchester United history to accumulate 10 home top-flight defeats.

Toffees target consecutive away day shutouts

  • Everton can keep consecutive away clean sheets for the first time since December 2023 under Sean Dyche.

Everton claimed an impressive 1-0 win away to Manchester United in their last Premier League away day, despite having Idrissa Gueye sent off after just 13 minutes for striking his own team-mate Michael Keane.

Everton now head to the south coast where they face an out-of-sorts Bournemouth who have picked up just one point from their last four games. If the Toffees manage to prevent the hosts from scoring then they will have kept consecutive away clean sheets for the first time since December 2023 under Sean Dyche.

Cottagers cursed

  • If Manchester City beat Fulham they will have won each of their past 19 meetings with Fulham in all competitions, the longest winning run in history that one English side has ever had against another.

Fulham have picked things up in recent weeks with back-to-back wins against Sunderland and Tottenham. However, the Cottagers will need a big dollop of luck if they are to beat their next opponent, Manchester City, given their absolutely appalling record against the Cityzens.

City have remarkably won every single one of the last 18 league and cup clashes between the sides dating back to 2011.

Frank’s Howe-ache

  • If Eddie Howe beats Thomas Frank he will have more wins over him than any other Premier League manager he has faced.

Tottenham’s form has severely nosedived, and their under-fire boss Thomas Frank could hardly face a more uncomfortable managerial matchup than Eddie Howe, given his abysmal record against him: Frank has lost six of the last eight Premier League meetings between the duo, winning only once.

Should Howe come out on top again on Tuesday, he will set a personal milestone by recording more victories (seven) over Frank than against any other manager he has faced in the Premier League.

Thiago’s scoring spree

  • Igor Thiago is looking to score his fifth Premier League away goal of the season; only Ivan Toney (2022-23) has scored as many for the Bees before Christmas.

Igor Thiago is in blistering form. The Brentford striker has racked up 11 goals in 13 league games, including five in his last three outings, which includes braces against Newcastle and Burnley.

He now faces the toughest of tests against the meanest defence in the league, albeit one weakened by the absence of Gabriel. Thiago will fancy his chances of scoring for the fourth game in a row and, if he does, he will become only the second ever Brentford player – after Ivan Toney in 2022-23 – to score five away goals before Christmas.

Fortress Amex

  • Brighton are looking to win four successive top-flight home games for the first time in their history.

Brighton have bounced back impressively after consecutive away defeats to Manchester United and Arsenal, collecting 10 points from their last four matches.

The Seagulls remain one of just four Premier League sides unbeaten at home this season, with four wins and two draws from six games at the Amex. Their strong run stretches back to last season, going 10 league home games unbeaten.

A win over in-form Aston Villa would see them achieve a new milestone: four consecutive top-flight home victories for the first time in their history.

Palace chase Turf Moor double

  • Burnley have only once previously suffered consecutive home defeats to Crystal Palace – a pair of losses in March and November of 2019.

Both sides come into this clash on the back of weekend defeats, though Burnley’s slump is far more severe: four straight defeats. The struggling Clarets have now been beaten in nine of their 13 Premier League games since returning to the top flight, leaving only Wolves below them in the table.

Crystal Palace won the most recent meeting between the teams at Turf Moor, and victory on Wednesday would see them achieve only their second-ever set of back-to-back away wins against Burnley.

More winless woes for Wolves?

  • If Wolves fail to beat Nottingham Forest they will be without a win in a club-record 18 Premier League matches.

Wolves matched their club record for their longest Premier League winless run after a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, which left them without a victory in 17 league games dating back to May. Since a six-game winning streak between March and April, the Midlands side have collected just three points from 51 available, including only two points from 13 games this season.

If Wolves fail to overcome Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, they will extend their winless streak to 18 games for the first time in the Premier League era, bringing them ever closer to their longest-ever league drought of 19 winless league matches between December 1984 and April 1985.

From fortress to frustration

  • If Leeds lose they will have lost three of their last four league home games, equaling the total number of home defeats they recorded in their previous 49 matches at Elland Road.

Leeds gave Manchester City a huge scare at the Etihad, only to be heartbreakingly denied by a last-gasp goal in a 3-2 defeat. Manager Daniel Farke is under heaps of pressure, having lost four games in a row and six of his last seven.

The challenges keep coming for Leeds, who now face in-form Chelsea at Elland Road on Wednesday night. Another defeat would see the Whites lose three of their last four home Premier League matches – matching their total losses from their previous 49 home games (W35 D11 L3).

Anfield awaits

  • Sunderland look to claim their first Anfield win since 1983.

Sunderland produced a stunning comeback in their 3-2 victory over Bournemouth, overturning a two-goal deficit after just 15 minutes. The win marks their sixth of the season, already matching their total from their last Premier League campaign.

Few would have predicted that the promoted Black Cats would sit above defending champions Liverpool after 13 games, but that is the reality, and they will be loving it.

Regis Le Bris’ side will now be targeting a huge win at Anfield – which would be their first in 19 visits since 1983 – against a stuttering Liverpool side that have lost their last two home games by three-goal margins.

Amorim seeks to dodge unwanted home record

  • A defeat would make Ruben Amorim the quickest manager to reach 10 home league losses in Manchester United history.

Manchester United mounted an impressive comeback to beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, a result they’ll now be looking to back up with a win at home to West Ham, who have won four of the last five league meetings between the clubs.

Ruben Amorim’s record at Old Trafford is under real scrutiny, having lost nine of his 19 Premier League games on home soil. A defeat to the Hammers would see him reach 10 home top-flight losses faster than any previous Red Devils manager, surpassing AH Albut’s long-standing record from 1892-94.
