PSG 5-0 Inter Milan: Player ratings as Parisiens cruise to their first Champions League title

PSG put on a masterclass and destroyed Inter Milan with the largest ever win in a UCL final.

The wait is finally over: Paris Saint-Germain win their first ever Champions League trophy by absolutely annihilating Inter Milan in a 5-0 win – the largest of any final in competition history. They also became the first team from France to win the Treble in the process.

Luis Enrique’s men took the game to Inter right from the start and were already 2-0 up within the first 20 minutes, thanks to Désiré Doué, who assisted the first goal and scored the second.

PSG still looked in control when the teams came back to the second half, and Doué scored yet again to put the French 3-0 up in a deadly fast break. From then, the Italians were already mentally out of the game and Kvaratskhelia and Mayulu added two more.

Here’s how the players rated at Allianz Arena:

PSG Player Ratings

Gianluigi Donnarumma – 7 – Didn’t have much to do in the game and only faced two shots on target, both from the 75th minute onwards and combining a total of 0.23 xGOT.

Achraf Hakimi – 8 – Scored the opener and pretty much wasn’t tested defensively, which allowed him to impact the game in the attacking half, which is what he does best. Great game from the Moroccan right-back.

Marquinhos – 7 – Won most of his duels (5/7) and provided a solid presence in PSG’s defence, leading all players in clearances (9). Most of them were easy, though, as the French side as a whole were never in real danger.

Willian Pacho – 8 – Similar to Marquinhos, but was more involved in a more important part of the game, when Inter tried to respond immediately after conceding and the score wasn’t decided yet.

Nuno Mendes – 7 – Had a more quiet game than Hakimi, but mostly due to PSG’s preference of playing down the right side of the pitch. Still impactful nonetheless, solid performance.

PSG clearly focused their play down the right side of the pitch.

João Neves – 7 – Steady as always with the ball at his feet, misplacing just two of his 57 pass attempts. Wasn’t as active as usual off the ball since PSG had possession most of the time and never conceded any danger that required him to chase or tackle anyone.

Vitinha – 8 – In terms of contribution, by far the most impactful midfielder from the French side. Created, destroyed and picked up an assist in the process, pulling the strings in a fast break that ended with the third goal, scored by Doué.

Fabián Ruiz – 7 – Also quiet relative to his teammates, but fell victim to the lack of action in the left side of the pitch. Still, when the ball got to him, he was effective.

Désiré Doué – 10 – Absolutely stole the show – while breaking all kinds of records along the way. Two goals, one assist and no signs of feeling the pressure. 10/10.

Kvicha Kvaratskhelia – 8 – Finally got his goal in the second half after struggling to finish in the earlier parts of the game. Also gave everything on the defensive end, putting in a solid shift to help his team lift the trophy.

Ousmane Dembélé – 9 – Earned a better rating just by giving opponents the same issues over and over again. Dropping deep, moving out wide and creating all sorts of problems and miscommunications for the opposing defences. Had two assists and we’ll excuse the missed chance that could’ve put PSG up 3-0 before half time.

Substitutes

Bradley Barcola (for Doué – 67) – 7 Heavily involved after coming off the bench, looked for the ball, got an assist and almost scored after a brilliant solo run.

Lucas Hernández (for Mendes – 78) – N/A – Late sub.

Senny Mayulu (for Ruíz – 84) – 7 – Grabbed the final goal and continued his good form in the end of the season, with three goal involvements in his last four matches in all competitions.

Warren Zaïre-Emery (for Neves 84) – N/A – Late sub.

Gonçalo Ramos (for Kvarastkhelia 84) – N/A – Late sub.

Inter Player Ratings

Yann Sommer – 5 – Made the saves he was supposed to in the first half, but could’ve done better in the last two goals conceded.

Benjamin Pavard – 6 – Probably had a minutes restriction, since this was his first game back after one month sidelined due to injury. Tried to force Inter up the pitch when he could, but to no success.

Francesco Acerbi – 5 – Looked confused with PSG’s lack of a true number nine occupying spaces in and around the box. Had a poor game overall.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6 – Like Pavard, tried to get his team forward whenever he could, but in vain. Also had to deal with Dimarco next to him, which naturally causes a certain overload.

Denzel Dumfries – 6 – Tried to impact the game in the right wing, but was almost always on his own, with no help or teammates presenting themselves as passing options.

Nicolò Barella – 4 –  Weirdly one of the players who looked most shaken by the stage and the occasion. Looked completely lost in terms of defensive positioning, couldn’t complete his long passes to get Inter going in transition. Nightmare game for the otherwise great Italian midfielder.

Hakan Çalhanoglu – 5 – Couldn’t connect his passes to drag Inter forward, showed no resistance defensively and wasn’t great taking set pieces, despite completing two of his seven crosses.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 5 – Didn’t really do much anywhere, offering no help when his teammates tried to attack or resistance in midfield, getting caught between PSG players not knowing who to mark. Had the most forgettable performance of any Inter midfielder.

Federico Dimarco – 3 – Dimarco is an extremely talented wing-back who’s always lacked defensive presence/knowledge, with the latter part of his game on full display in Munich. Dropped too deep in PSG’s first goal, keeping both Doué and Hakimi onside, and was too distant from Doué in the second goal. An absolute nightmare and one of his worst performances for Inter.

Marcus Thuram – 6 – Managed to get on the end of a few long balls, but failed to keep the play going. Still won most of his duels (7/12) and gave some effort despite the unfavourable collective context.

Lautaro Martínez – 5 – Struggled to make an impact like any Inter forward would given how they played as a unit. But still showed less than Thuram who had a harder task at hand.

Substitutes

Yann Bisseck (for Pavard 54) – N/A – Came on for Pavard but unfortunately suffered an injury less than 10 minutes after and had to leave the game.

Nicola Zalewski (for Dimarco 54) – 5 – Showed some effort after coming on for Dimarco, but had no real impact.

Carlos Augusto (for Mkhitaryan 62) – 5 – Tried to “fix” the left side of Inter’s defence, but PSG scored the third just seconds after he came on, so it was already a lost battle.

Matteo Darmian (for Bisseck 62) – 5 – Entered the game with Carlos Augusto and had, like the Brazilian, had no chance to make a defensive impact.

Krjstian Asllani (for Çalhanoglu 70) – 5 – Came on when Inter were already 0-3 down and PSG scored the fourth three minutes after his substitution. Fits the same bill as the others, fighting a lost battle.
