Can Abraham cause Van Dijk problems? Chelsea vs Liverpool – Premier League preview

All eyes will be back on the Premier League this weekend as the first European games of the season have come and gone.

Gameweek 6 sees a number of interesting encounters as Leicester City welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the King Power Stadium, West Ham take on Manchester United and Burnley host Norwich City.

The latter sees two of the league’s unlikely top scorers – Ashley Barnes and Teemu Pukki – go head-to-head and both will fancy their chances of adding more goals to their CV.

As for the Red Devils, they will be hoping to secure back-to-back league victories after enduring a mini slump but the Hammers may have something to say about that. However, there is little doubt that the game of the weekend is the mouthwatering showdown between Chelsea and Liverpool.

Since the arrival of Roman Abramovich in 2003 there’s been a string of high-profile games between the pair but in the vast majority it’s been the Blues who have claimed the bragging rights.

A role reversal is now on the cards with Liverpool being the only Premier League team with a 100% record after their opening five matches. As for the west Londoners, it’s a case of out with the old and in with the new.

Frank Lampard’s side are one of the youngest in the league and – following a tentative start – have come into their own with Tammy Abraham finding form in front of goal.

He’s expected to face his toughest challenge yet when he comes face-to-face with Virgil van Dijk, the man who is widely considered to be the world’s leading central defender.

But how will the young striker cope? He’s got the pace to trouble the Dutchman but Van Dijk is a wily old fox and knows all the tricks of the trade.
