Predicting every result from Liverpool’s gruelling 10-match run

The unrelenting fixture schedule is an increasing complaint of modern football; we’re about to witness that firsthand.

However, not all lists are created equal, with Liverpool’s upcoming matches best described as intense. Arne Slot’s side must navigate three competitions where they’ll face their immediate Premier League rivals while reconnecting with an old friend and replaying a European Cup final.

Those subsequent ten games are broken into two parts: seven across 20 days before the November international break acts like an interval, and then in seven days, three further showdowns, when all is said and done, have taken us from late October into early December.

We have looked at what’s to come and give predictions on how the Reds will fare.

Chelsea

  • Date: October 20
  • Competition: Premier League
  • Venue: Home

Chelsea have won just one of their last nine Premier League away games against Liverpool (five draws and three losses), going down 4-1 in this fixture last season. Despite their recent upturn in form under Enzo Maresca, expect another blue day with Liverpool coming out on top.

Prediction: Win

RB Leipzig

  • Date: October 23
  • Competition: Champions League
  • Venue: Away

It’s been a disappointing start in the Champions League for RB Leipzig, who come into this game having lost back-to-back; even more frustrating is they’ve looked alright in those outings and they should give Slot’s men a run for their money, but again fall short.

Prediction: Win

Arsenal

  • Date: October 27
  • Competition: Premier League
  • Venue: Away

Two championship rivals go head-to-head, but last season’s runners-up are missing a central defensive lynchpin, which could be in Liverpool’s favour, but the Gunners, if they keep all eleven men on the field, are still a formidable outfit. This clash has a draw written all over it.

Prediction: Draw

Brighton

  • Date: October 30
  • Competition: EFL Cup
  • Venue: Away

The first of two consecutive meetings against Brighton, and this being in the EFL Cup, expect Slot to give his big guns a rest, but as we’ve seen in the previous round, Liverpool’s back-ups are good as most team’s first choices, and they should have enough to return home with progression into the next stage.

Prediction: Win

Brighton

  • Date: November 2
  • Competition: Premier League
  • Venue: Home

Barring any injuries or suspension, Liverpool should be at full strength here, and that spells trouble for Brighton, who do have the capability of causing the Reds a rough time, but more often than not, they should have enough at home.

Prediction: Win

Bayer Leverkusen

  • Date: November 5
  • Competition: Champions League
  • Venue: Home

Xabi Alonso returns, and the former Liverpool midfield maestro will get a warm reception. He could have been in the home team’s dugout if things had turned out differently. Leverkusen hasn’t been able to replicate last season’s form, but they’re far from reaching those heights. This should be a tight affair with the Reds, powered on by their 12th man, sneaking it.

Prediction: Win

Aston Villa

  • Date: November 9
  • Competition: Premier League
  • Venue: Home

Unai Emery has the personnel to cause Liverpool problems with a draw and a fair prediction. Both teams would be coming off playing in Europe mid-week, so you have to fancy the hosts getting all three points.

Prediction: Win

Southampton

  • Date: November 24
  • Competition: Premier League
  • Venue: Away

Southampton fans would be hopeful their side’s fortunes have changed when this fixture comes around, but it’s still going to be a tall order to get something from a Liverpool team that has shown no mercy to newly promoted teams.

Prediction: Win

Real Madrid

Date: November 27
Competition: Champions League
Venue: Away

A blockbuster showdown in Europe’s premier club competition and a repeat of two previous Champions League finals in which Liverpool lost. Expect another setback here, albeit a close-fought contest.

Prediction: Lose

Man City

Date: December 1
Competition: Premier League
Venue: Away

Talk about going from the frying pan into the fire. Madrid to Manchester in a couple of days. Liverpool have struggled at City’s home in recent years, and we don’t expect that to change with the English champions coming out on top. It would be interesting to see the landscape of the Premier League table going into a hectic December.

Prediction: Lose
