Every top 50 nation’s all-time top international goalscorer

One of the most important stats for fans in international football is goals. And, more important, who has scored the most.

We all know the all-time top goalscorer of our country, and we may know the best for a few other nations. For example, Cristiano Ronaldo leads the way for Portugal, Harry Kane sits top of England and Neymar rules the roost in Brazil.

In women’s football, Vivianne Miedema is the all-time top goalscorer for the Netherlands and Christiane Sinclair is Canada’s record-holder. But what about the rest of the countries?

We’ve compiled a list of the all-time leading men’s and women’s goalscorers for the top 50 nations based on Fifa’s men’s rankings.

Algeria’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Islam Slimani (45 goals)
  • Women: Naima Bouhani (36 goals)

Some English fans may remember Islam Slimani for his underwhelming time in the Premier League. But he knows how to score goals, netting 45 times for Algeria in just over 100 appearances. His counterpart in the women’s team is Naima Bouhani, who has 36 goals in 61 caps for Algeria — still going at 40 years old.

Argentina’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Lionel Messi (115 goals)
  • Women: Florencia Bonsegundo (24 goals)

It’s no surprise to see Lionel Messi leading the charts for Argentina’s men;’s team. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner overtook Gabriel Batistuta’s tally of 56 in 2016 and has now racked up 114 goals for his nation. He also sits top for caps. The honour of being the Argentina women’s all-time top scorer is held by Florencia Bonsegundo, who scored twice in the latest international break to move two clear of Mariana Larroquetta.

Australia’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Tim Cahill (50 goals)
  • Women: Sam Kerr (69 goals)

There will be no surprise at either of these names. Tim Cahill is one of Australia’s greatest exports in terms of men’s football, and he hit a nice round 50 goals for the Socceroos. And Sam Kerr is one of the biggest women’s footballers in history, known for her goalscoring. The striker has hit 69 goals for the Matildas, and that’s despite recently missing almost two years due to injury.

Austria’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Marko Arnautovic (47 goals)
  • Women: Nina Burger (53 goals)

Marko Arnautovic is another to lead his country for both goals and appearances. He only recently became Austria’s all-time top scorer, thanks to a four-goal haul against San Marino in 2026 World Cup qualifying — taking his total tally to 45. And he’s since extended that to 47. Nina Burger currently holds the record for Austria’s women’s team with 53 goals during her 14-year international career. But Nicole Billa (47) will be eyeing the crown.

Belgium’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Romelu Lukaku (89 goals)
  • Women: Tessa Wullaert (97 goals)

Romelu Lukaku has been Belgium men’s all-time top scorer for some time now. The striker broke the record in November 2017, when it was just 30 goals — held by Bernard Voorhoof and Paul Van Himst. Fast forward eight years, and Lukaku hasn’t just broken the record. He’s obliterated it. Lukaku now sits on 89 goals, over 50 goals more than second-placed Kevin De Bruyne. But Tessa Wullaert is the all-time top scorer Belgian for international football, with her 97 goals for the women’s team. Again it’s a record she dominates, with 49 more goals than her closest rival.

Brazil’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Neymar (79 goals)
  • Women: Marta (122 goals)

Brazil is another nation where people won’t be surprised with the two top scorers. Neymar levelled Pele’s 77 goals at the 2022 World Cup and broke the record outright in September 2023, thanks to two goals against Bolivia. But he hasn’t added to his 79 goals since, due to struggles with injury. Marta has now called time on her international career, one which spanned 22 years and 213 caps. During that time, the legend scored 122 goals for her national team, a record she’ll likely hold for a while.

Canada’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Jonathan David (37 goals)
  • Women: Christine Sinclair (190 goals)

Canada’s men’s national team have seen two players hit the 30-mark for goals, with Cyle Larin and Jonathan David actually achieving the feat in the same game. But David has since added seven more goals to his tally, taking the record outright. It does pale in comparison to Christine Sinclair’s 190 goals for Canada’s women’s team. In fact, Sinclair has scored more international goals than any other player in football history.

Colombia’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Radamel Falcao (36 goals)
  • Women: Catalina Usme (62 goals)

There’s no doubt that Radamel Falcao’s tally would be higher if he didn’t have his various injury issues. But the Colombian still managed 36 goals for his national team before calling time on his international career, more than any other player. Although, James Rodriguez may be sniffing the record, just six behind. Catalina Usme has been an icon of Colombia’s women’s team and rightly holds the spot as their all-time top scorer, on 62 goals.

Costa Rica’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Rolando Fonseca (47 goals)
  • Women: Rocky Rodriguez (55 goals)

Paulo Wanchope once held the record for Costa Rica’s men’s team in terms of goalscoring, netting 45 goals during his 12-year international career. But Rolando Fonseca scored five goals in 2007 to overtake Wanchope before he retired, claiming Costa Rica’s crown. Rocky Rodriguez sits top of the pile for the women’s team in Costa Rica, netting 58 goals. She also has the honour of scoring Costa Rica’s first goal at a Women’s World Cup, in 2015.

Croatia’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Davor Suker (45 goals)
  • Women: Ivana Rudelic (22 goals)

Davor Suker remains Croatia’s greatest international goalscorer, scoring 45 goals in 69 caps — not including the one goal he scored for Yugoslavia. It’s a record he looks set to hold for a while, with his closest active competitors — Ivan Perisic and Andrej Kramaric — both running out of time in their careers. Ivana Rudelic holds the record for Croatia’s women’s team, with 22 goals. It’s a record she took outright recently, having been level with Maja Joscak.

Czech Republic’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Jan Koller (55 goals)
  • Women: Gabriela Chlumecka (52 goals)

Fans of a certain age will remember Jan Koller for his intimidating presence up front. And defenders feared him too. The 6’8″ striker scored 55 goals for the Czech Republic during his career, including four at major tournaments. Gabriel Chlumecka is Czech Republic’s women’s all-time top scorer, scoring 52 goals during her 16-year career before retiring in 2007. And it’s a record she’ll likely hold for some time.

Denmark’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Poul Nielsen and Jon Dahl Tomasson (52 goals)
  • Women: Pernille Harder (82 goals)

Denmark are another nation to have dual all-time top goalscorers, though this time it’s for the men’s team. Poul Nielsen and Jon Dahl Tomasson share the record for Denmark, both netting 52 goals during their careers. Nielson set the record a long time ago, with Tomasson only able to match it. That’s a problem Pernille Harder did not have, holding the record outright for Denmark’s women’s national team on 82 goals.

Ecuador’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Enner Valencia (48 goals)

Enner Valencia is still going strong for Ecuador and will be hoping to reach 50 goals for the men’s national team soon. He is just two goals away, sitting on 48 in 101 caps. He sits 17 clear of any other player and he doesn’t look like getting caught any time soon. There is no accurate record for Ecuador’s women’s national team but Nayely Bolanos is claimed to be top scorer, with an unconfirmed number of goals.

Egypt’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Hossam Hassan (69 goals)
  • Women: Amany Rashad (21 goals)

Some might be surprised to see Mo Salah not on this list. But he’s close. The Liverpool man has 63 goals for Egypt, just six behind leading goalscorer Hossam Hassan. Hassan’s 69 goals came in 176 appearances, and was a record not many would have expected to be broken until Salah came along. The record for the women’s team isn’t as high, but it’s Amany Rashad who holds it, with 21 goals.

England’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Harry Kane (78 goals)
  • Women: Ellen White (52 goals)

Harry Kane continues to lead the way for England’s men’s national team, taking his tally to 74 goals for the Three Lions. He broke the record held by Wayne Rooney in March 2023, and has run away with it, currently sitting on 78 goals. Eight of those have come at World Cups, with a further seven at European Championships. Ellen White holds the record for the Lionesses, breaking Kelly Smith’s record in September 2021. White was also a major tournament menace, scoring seven goals at the Women’s World Cup for England.

France’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Olivier Giroud (57 goals)
  • Women: Eugenie Le Sommer (94 goals)

Olivier Giroud is clinging onto his spot as France’s all-time top scorer, netting 57 goals for Les Bleus before retiring in 2024. Giroud broke Thierry Henry’s record at the 2022 World Cup, scoring four goals in total. He added four more goals since to sit on 57, though he is only two clear of Kylian Mbappe. Eugenie Le Sommer is currently a lot more comfortable at the top of the chance for France’s women’s team. Le Sommer has scored 94 goals for her country, 13 more than any other player. And the highest-scoring active player is some 54 goals behind.

Germany’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Miroslav Klose (71 goals)
  • Women: Birgit Prinz (128 goals)

These names will not be a surprise. Miroslav Klose is the all-time top scorer in World Cup history, scoring 16 goals. That has contributed to his 71 goals in total for Germany, more than any other player. He did end his career with just three goals more for Germany than Gerd Muller. But Klose’s record doesn’t look like being broken any time soon. The same can be said for Birgit Prinz, who scored 128 goals in 214 games for Germany’s women’s team — also leading for appearances. She’s a German football legend for a reason.

Greece’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Nikos Anastopoulos (29 goals)
  • Women: Maria Lazarou (26 goals)

These numbers are quite low, which does open up the opportunity for them to be broken in the years to come. Nikos Anastopoulos is Greece’s men’s all-time top goalscorer, with his record of 29 goals standing for almost 40 years. Angelos Charisteas and Theofanis Gekas have both gone close this century, but 29 has been unattainable so far. Maria Lazarou is even less secure, with her 26 goals. Sophia Koggouli looks likely to break the record, needing just two goals before she calls time on her career to take it outright.

Hungary’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Ferenc Puskas (84 goals)
  • Women: Fanny Vago (74 goals)

It will be no surprise to see Ferenc Puskas lead the scoring for Hungary’s men’s team. And his 84 goals is unlikely to be broken any time soon. In fact, the highest scorer in their most recent squad is Dominik Szoboszlai, who has scored 17 goals. Fanny Vago is in a similar situation for Hungary’s women’s team. Vago, who only retired from international football a few years ago, has scored 74 goals for Hungary — 31 more than any other player.

Iran’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Ali Daei (108 goals)
  • Women: Zahra Ghanbari (18 goals)

For a long time, Ali Daei was the top-scoring man in international football. That record has seen been broken, but Daei still holds the record as Iran’s all-time top men’s goalscorer. Daei scored 108 goals for his national team, just under double second-placed Sardar Azmoun. Zahra Ghanbari is Iran’s women’s all-time top scorer, with 18 goals, first breaking the record in 2021.

Italy’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Gigi Riva (35 goals)
  • Women: Elisabetta Vignotto (97 goals)

Despite having a host of stars in their history, Italy’s men’s all-time goals record has stood for over 50 years. Gigi Riva holds the record for his 35 goals, scored in just 42 caps for the Azzurri. That saw him break the record previously held by Giuseppe Meazza. Italy’s women’s side have had no such issues. Elisabetta Vignotto holds the record on 97 goals, with Carolina Morace pushing her close shortly after. It is still a record likely to stay for a while though.

Ivory Coast’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Didier Drogba (65 goals)

Unsurprisingly, Didier Drogba is Ivory Coast’s all-time top men’s goalscorer, netting 65 goals during his career. He became the first player to hit 50 goals for the nation, in breaking the previous record held by Abdoulaye Traore (49). Drogba also ranks fourth for all-time appearances. There aren’t any official records for the women’s team, but both Josee Nahi and Ines N’Rehy are down as scoring 14 goals.

Japan’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Kunishige Kamamoto (75 goals)
  • Women: Homare Sawa (83 goals)

Japan are another nation with most men’s and women’s top scorers hitting high numbers. Kunishige Kamamoto is the men’s all-time top scorer, netting 75 goals in 76 appearances for Japan. It’s a record that has stood for over 50 years, with Kamamoto blowing the previous best out of the water during his career in the 60s and 70s. Homare Sawa record is more recent, with her career ending in 2015 — breaking Kaori Nagamine’s record in 2004. Sawa is also Japan’s women’s all-time leading appearance maker with 205 caps.

Mexico’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Javier Hernandez (52 goals)
  • Women: Maribel Dominguez (82 goals)

Another name you won’t be surprised to see top of their nation is Javier Hernandez. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward has scored 52 goals for Mexico, more than any other man to represent El Tri. He took the record in May 2017, knocking Jared Borgetti off top spot. Maribel Dominguez is the main star for Mexico, leading the women’s team for both caps and goals. Her 82 goals have come in 116 appearances, and while she’s likely to be caught for the latter, her goals record seems very safe.

Morocco’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Ahmed Faras (36 goals)
  • Women: Ibtissam Jraidi (34 goals)

Ahmed Faras has held the record as Morocco’s men’s all-time top goalscorer, with no one really coming close despite the striker playing his last international game in 1979. Four other men have hit 20+ goals for Morocco, with Youssef En-Nesyri holding the best opportunity to usurp Faras, on 25 goals at the age of 28. Ibtissam Jraidi is Morocco’s all-time top scorer in the women’s game, netting 34 times for her country.

Netherlands’ all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Memphis Depay (55 goals)
  • Women: Vivianne Miedema (104 goals)

Memphis Depay is perhaps a surprise name at the top of the list for the Netherlands’ men’s team. But it’s a fact you won’t forget once you know. Depay overtook Robin van Persie earlier this year, with his 51 goal against Lithuania in World Cup qualifying — taking his tally to 52 in the same game. Depay has since added three more goals, to reach 55 overall. But he still has some way to go to match Vivianne Miedema’s record for the Netherlands’ women’s national team. Miedema hit a big milestone at Women’s Euro 2025, netting her 100th goal for her country — since upping that to 104. She’s held the record since June 2019, a few weeks before turning 23.

Nigeria’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Rashidi Yekini (37 goals)
  • Women: Perpetua Nkwocha (80 goals)

Nigeria have had a host of iconic strikers over the years, but it’s still Rashidi Yekini who leads the way for goals in the men’s team. Known as the Goals Father, Yekini scored 37 times for the Super Eagles during his 15-year international career, in 62 caps. Victor Osimhen is just six goals behind, though, and will likely break the record before the age of 30. Perpetua Nkwocha stands in a league of her own for the women’s team, with 80 goals in 99 caps.

Norway’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Erling Haaland (55 goals)
  • Women: Isabell Herlovsen (67 goals)

Jorgen Juve’s record of 33 goals for Norway’s men’s team stood for a long time, set during his career in the 1920s and 1930s. And then someone called Erling Haaland came along. Haaland equal and broke the record in the same game, scoring twice in a win over Slovenia — in October 2024. A year later and Haaland is now on 55 goals, with 16 coming in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Some fans may be surprised to see someone other than Ada Hegerberg top of the women’s list, but she famously did not play for Norway for five years in protest against treatment of the women’s team by the Norwegian federation. Isabell Herlovsen may have celebrated that the most, as she holds the record of 67 goals — just one more than second-placed Marianne Pettersen, who she overtook.

Panama’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Luis Tejada (43 goals)
  • Women: Marta Cox (26 goals)

Luis Tejada and Blas Perez had a good battle to be Panama’s top men’s goalscorer. But it was Tejada who came out on top, with 43 goals to Perez’s 42. Tejada’s 43 goals also came in fewer games, needing 108 caps to hold the record. Marta Cox is Panama’s women’s all-time top goalscorer, breaking the record earlier this year. Cox also holds the honour of being the first woman to score for Panama at the Women’s World Cup.

Paraguay’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Roque Santa Cruz (32 goals)
  • Women: Jessica Martinez (23 goals)

Roque Santa Cruz is another name you won’t be surprised to see top of their nation. The former Blackburn Rovers striker scored 32 goals in 112 games for Paraguay’s men’s team, breaking Jose Saturnino Cardozo’s record of 25 in 2013. Jessica Martinez is the top scorer for the women’s team, currently on 23 goals.

Peru’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Paolo Guerrero (40 goals)
  • Women: Miryam Tristan (13 goals)

Paolo Guerrero hasn’t called time on his Peru career so will be looking to add to his 40 goals for the men’s team, which is the current record. He broke the record in June 2016, scoring his 27th goal in a 1-0 win over Haiti at Copa America — usurping Teofilo Cubillas. The record for Peru’s women’s team isn’t as high, with Miryan Tristan leading the pack on 13 goals.

Poland’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Robert Lewandowski (88 goals)
  • Women: Ewa Pajor (69 goals)

Two names you won’t be surprised to see. Robert Lewandowski is top of the pile for Poland’s men’s team, equalling and breaking the record in the same game in October 2017. The record was 48 at the time, but Lewandowski has kept going to make sure his own tally is tough to beat. Lewandowski now sits on 88 goals and will surely be dreaming of 100 if his career allows. Another Barcelona striker holds the record for Poland’s women’s team, with Ewa Pajor netting 69 goals in 105 caps. That record was broken in September 2022, as Pawor scored a hat-trick in a big win over Kosovo in 2023 Women’s World Cup qualifying.

Portugal’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Cristiano Ronaldo (143 goals)
  • Women: Edite Fernandes (39 goals)

Cristiano Ronaldo will no doubt have his sights set on at least scoring 150 goals for Portugal. The iconic forward has now hit 143 goals, more than any other man in international football — taking Ali Daei’s record. Portugal’s record tumbled long before that, previously held by Pauleta at just 47. Edite Fernandes holds the record for Portugal’s women’s side, with 39 goals. It’s not quite Ronaldo, but it’ll still take a while to beat.

Russia’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Artem Dzyuba (31 goals)
  • Women: Natalia Barbashina (46 goals)

It’ll likely be no surprise to see Artem Dzyuba all-time top scorer for Russia’s men’s team. But he only just did it, beating Aleksandr Kerzhakov’s record by one. And it looked like he’d only equal the record, going four years without playing between 2021 and 2025 — before earning a recall and taking it outright. Natalia Barbashina holds the women’s record with 46 goals, during her 14-year career.

Scotland’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Denis Law and Kenny Dalglish (30 goals)
  • Women: Julie Fleeting (116 goals)

Two players share the honour of being Scotland’s men’s all-time top scorers and they’re both legendary. Denis Law and Kenny Dalglish are tied on 30 goals — though the latter did in almost half as many games (55 to 102). It was Law’s record to begin with, initially taken from Hughie Gallacher, with Dalglish later equalling it. Julie Fleeting is the all-time top scorer for Scotland’s women’s team, with an incredible 116 goals across her career. That includes 11 games in which she scored a hat-trick or better.

Senegal’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Sadio Mane (51 goals)
  • Women: Nguenar Ndiaye (19 goals)

Unsurprisingly, Sadio Mane sits top of the pile in terms of Senegal’s men’s goalscorers, netting 51 goals in 119 caps. He’s held the record since June 2022, when he overtook Henri Camara — now sitting 15 goals clear. Nguenar Ndiaye leads the way for Senegal’s women’s side, currently on 19 goals.

Serbia’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Aleksandar Mitrovic (63 goals)
  • Women: Jovana Damnjanovic (22 goals)

Aleksandar Mitrovic continues to score goals for Serbia, adding to his tally as their all-time top scoring man. The striker has now hit 63 goals for his country, sitting 25 ahead of the man he usurped — Stjepan Bobek. Bayern Munich striker Jovana Damnjanovic holds the record for Serbia’s women’s team with 22 goals.

Slovakia’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Marek Hamsik (26 goals)
  • Women: Patricia Hmirova (30 goals)

Marek Hamsik leads the way for Slovakia’s men’s team, breaking Robert Vittek’s record by just three goals. Patricia Hmirova is top of the pile for the women’s team, taking her total tally to 30 — 12 more than any other player.

Slovenia’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Zlatko Zahovic (35 goals)
  • Women: Lara Prasnikar (48 goals)

It’s quite close at the top of Slovenia’s men’s scoring list, with Zlatko Zahovic sitting just three goals clear at the top on 35 goals. Milivoje Novakovic went close to breaking the record, but could only manage 32 during his career. Lara Prasnika leads the way for the women’s team, with 48 goals in 89 caps.

South Korea’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Cha Bum-kun (58 goals)
  • Women: Ji So-yun (74 goals)

Son Heung-min has scored 54 goals for South Korea, but he isn’t their top-scoring man yet. That record is still held by the legendary Cha Bum-kun, who scored 58 goals in 136 games during his career. Former Chelsea midfielder Ji So-yun is in a league of her own for South Korea’s women’s team, with 74 goals — 36 more than any other player.

Spain’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: David Villa (59 goals)
  • Women: Jenni Hermoso (57 goals)

Some fans may think of Raul when it comes to Spanish goalscorers. And he did once hold their men’s record. But he was overtaken by David Villa in March 2011, who now leads the way. Villa ended his career on 59 goals for Spain, 15 more than Raul managed. Jenni Hermoso holds the record outright for the women’s team with 57 goals in 123 games — 19 clear of anyone else.

Sweden’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (62 goals)
  • Women: Lotta Schelin (88 goals)

Of course Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the all-time top scorer in Sweden’s men’s international history. Ibrahimovic equalled and broke the record in September 2014 with a brace in a friendly against Estonia, becoming the first man to score 50 goals for Sweden — overtaking Sven Rydell. Ibrahimovic went on to score 12 more goals for his country, retiring on 62. Lotta Schelin is an icon, and we’re not just talking about in the EAFC sense. The striker is Sweden’s women’s all-time leading goalscorer, netting 88 goals during her career. She broke the record held by Hanna Ljungberg, which was previously set at 72 and made her own tally very tough to beat.

Switzerland’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Alexander Frei (42 goals)
  • Women: Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic (74 goals)

Switzerland have produced a lot of good players over the years, but not really a standout goalscorer. Alexander Frei has been the best of the bunch on the men’s side, netting 42 in 84 caps — a very even goal every two games. Before Frei, the record was previously held by both Kubilay Turkyilmaz and Max Abegglen. Switzerland’s women’s team have been blessed with two goalscoring forwards in the modern era, with both Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic and Ramona Bachmann proving tough for opposition defences. But it’s Crnogorcevic who stands clear of the rest on 74 goals, 14 more than second-placed Bachmann.

Tunisia’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Issam Jemaa (36 goals)
  • Women: Mariem Houij (21 goals)

Issam Jemaa had a decent record for Tunisia, scoring 36 goals in 84 caps across his nine-year international career. That was enough to have him as the all-time top scorer of the men’s team, breaking Francileudo Santos’ record. Wahbi Khazri has gone closest to matching Jemaa since, but even he was still 11 goals off. Mariem Houij holds the record for Tunisia’s women’s team on 21 goals.

Turkey’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Hakan Sukur (51 goals)
  • Women: Yagmur Uraz (28 goals)

Hakan Sukur being Turkey’s all-time top goalscorer on the men’s side won’t surprise anyone. Sukur is a Turkish football legend, scoring 51 goals in 112 games for his country, 20 more than any other player. Sukur blew the previous record out of the water, held by Lefter Kucukandonyadis, set in the mid 20th century. Yagmur Uraz has scored 28 goals for Turkey’s women’s side since making her debut in 2006, breaking Melahat Eryurt’s record. But Ebru Topcu is now just four goals behind.

Ukraine’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Andriy Shevchenko (48 goals)
  • Women: Daryna Apanashchenko (67 goals)

Another name that won’t be a surprise is Andriy Shevchenko being Ukraine’s men’s all-time top scorer. The former AC Milan striker is arguably Ukraine’s greatest footballing export and scored 48 goals for his national side. What might be a surprise, though, is that Andriy Yarmolenko is just two goals away from equalling — and three away from breaking — Shevchenko’s record. Daryna Apanashchenko is a lot more comfortable holding the women’s record with her 67 goals some 36 clear of any other player.

Uruguay’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Luis Suarez (69 goals)
  • Women: Belen Aquino (11 goals)

Uruguay have had some good goalscorers over the years, and Luis Suarez is the best of them. He sits top of the men’s charts with 69 goals, 11 clear of Edinson Cavani. Diego Forlan was the previous record holder on 34 goals, but Suarez broke that record in 2013. Although Forlan did draw level again on 36, Suarez then broke clear. The goalscoring for the women’s side hasn’t been as great, with Belen Aquino currently attributed as leading the way on 11 — at the age of just 23.

USA’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan (57 goals)
  • Women: Abby Wambach (184 goals)

Two American icons lead the way for the men’s national team when it comes to goalscoring. Much like the rest of their game, there was nothing to separate Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan, who both ended their careers with 57 international goals. If you added them both together, you still wouldn’t come close to the 184 Abby Wambach scored for the United States Women’s National Team. Wambach previously held the record for most international goals too, before that was broken by Canada’s Sinclair.

Venezuela’s all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Salomon Rondon (48 goals)

Salomon Rondon is arguably Venezuela’s most-famous football export. At least in the 21st century. And he stands alone at the top when it comes to their men’s goalscorers. The former Premier League striker has netted 48 times for his country, 25 more than any other player. The records for the women’s team aren’t as clear or accurate, but Deyna Castellanos has scored 24 goals for Venezuela.

Wales’ all-time top goalscorers

  • Men: Gareth Bale (41 goals)
  • Women: Helen Ward (44 goals)

Ian Rush was a strong goalscorer for Wales. But even he couldn’t stop the rise of Gareth Bale. The former Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid winger netted 41 goals in 111 caps for Wales, breaking Rush’s record by 13. Bale equalled and broke Rush’s record in the same game, scoring a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over China in March 2018. Helen Ward holds the record for Wales’ women’s team, netting 44 goals across her career.
