Christian Eriksen has completed his much-anticipated move from Tottenham Hotspur to Inter Milan, marking the end of a captivating era in north London.
Signed as part of the ‘Spurs Seven’ in 2013 from Ajax, the Denmark international enjoyed six-and-a-half years of creative dominance in the capital, and leaves behind an indelible legacy.
The 27-year-old has become the third player Antonio Conte has brought to the San Siro from the Premier League this January transfer window alone, linking up with Ashley Young and Victor Moses.
The former has already made an impact in Serie A, teeing up Lautaro Martinez for the opening goal over the weekend as the Nerazzurri dropped points to Cagliari, with the race for the Scudetto heating up.
As Conte looks to break Juventus’ stranglehold on Italian football, only three points separate the two sides at the summit of Serie A, making Eriksen’s arrival all the more important for Inter.
The Dane’s preferred position is a No. 10 role but – given Conte’s penchant for deploying a 3-5-2 with three central midfielders – he may well utilise his new recruit as the more advanced player in his middle trident.
Stefano Sensi has often been the man tasked with pushing further up the pitch and fashioning chances for Martinez and Romelu Lukaku, so it will be interesting to see whether Conte tinkers with his tactical blueprint or makes some changes to his personnel.
