Fantasy Premier League 2024/25 tips: Three best value FPL players released so far, and the worst

We’re just a month away from the start of the new Premier League season, which means FPL is also nearly back.
On Thursday, the price of one player from each club was revealed as the Premier League started to whet our appetites and it’s about now when many FPL enthusiasts will begin drafting their squads for the big opening weekend. That release was followed up with a host of other players having their prices revealed, so we’re starting to get a good idea about how to portion out our budgets.
So, who are the best and worst value FPL players from those whose prices have been released so far?
Fantasy Premier League 2024/25 tips: Three best value FPL players released so far
3. Christopher Nkunku
Club: Chelsea
Position: MID
Price: £6.5m
23/24 points: 29
Nkunku was restricted to just two Premier League starts and 11 overall appearances last season due to injury and yet, he still managed to score three goals. The Frenchman’s final two seasons with RB Leipzig saw him notch 58 goals and 29 assists in 88 appearances across all competitions, so nobody is in any doubt about his true quality.
Last season’s injuries have seen Nkunku take a £1m hit to his price and it’s true that he needs a good pre-season to hit the ground running under Enzo Maresca. However, he’s been reclassified as a midfielder and if he does rediscover the form he enjoyed in Germany, that £6.5m price will look like a real snip.
2. Richarlison
Club: Tottenham
Position: FWD
Price: £7m
23/24 points: 122
Despite making just 18 starts in the Premier League last season, Richarlison still put up 11 goals and four assists, proving himself a very important player at key moments in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge at Tottenham.
On his day, Richarlison is a menace for defenders. Among Spurs players to feature in 100+ Premier League minutes last season, the Brazilian was first for goals (0.66) and shots attempted (1.51) per 90 minutes, needing no second invitation to try his luck. The 27-year-old has been reclassified as a forward and after more than proving himself capable of leading the line for Spurs, looks great value at just £7m.
For context, the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Rasmus Hojlund, Diogo Jota and Marcus Rashford all cost more last season than what Richarlison does now, yet scored fewer points across 2023/24.
1. Anthony Gordon
Club: Newcastle United
Position: MID
Price: £7.5m
23/24 points: 183
Anthony Gordon was Newcastle’s highest points scorer last season with 183, thanks to 11 goals and 10 assists in 35 appearances. Naturally, that’s seen him get a price bump from £6.4m to £7.5m. However, there are a couple of key factors to consider.
One is that he may still make a big move this summer, with the likes of Man City and Liverpool linked with transfers. It’s hard to imagine Gordon’s numbers doing anything other than skyrocketing playing alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden, or Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Even if Gordon stays put, Newcastle face Southampton, Bournemouth, Wolves and Fulham across their opening five fixtures — with a clash against Spurs in the middle. That’s about as kind an opening to the season as you could ask for.
Honourable mentions: Leif Davis, Pedro Neto, Jarrod Bowen, Antoine Semenyo
Fantasy Premier League 2024/25 tips: Is Erling Haaland worth his FPL record price?
The biggest news of the day was Erling Haaland being slapped with a whopping £15m price tag — the largest in FPL history. So, is he worth it? The Norwegian has plenty of arguments for and against.
After all, this is a player who has won back-to-back Premier League Golden Boots since joining Man City from Dortmund, scoring 63 goals in 66 appearances to date. Playing for the four-in-a-row champions and arguably the most effective attacking unit the English top flight has ever seen means he gets a bucket load of chances in almost every game he plays.
However, it’s no secret that Haaland struggles to contribute in the run of play. The 23-year-old has just 13 Premier League assists to his name to date, which is pretty low when you consider how much time he spends in the attacking third. What’s more, Haaland was only the fifth-highest FPL points scorer last season on 217, finishing behind Bukayo Saka (226), Ollie Watkins (228), Phil Foden (230) and Cole Palmer (244). Injury hampered the Norwegian’s campaign and FPL managers started to realise they could win without Haaland.
That makes it very hard to justify putting down a record-setting fee to put Haaland into your time, especially when it could price you out of stacking your team with other big names like Saka, Salah and Son Heung-min.

What changes are being made to FPL in 2024/25?
Along with more price releases, FPL revealed on Tuesday a number of new features that will come to the game for the 2024/25 season, giving players even more potential strategies to think about.
Five free transfers
Previously, you’ve only been able to save two free transfers. However, players will have much more flexibility next season as they’re now able to accumulate up to five free transfers. Additionally, when you play your Wildcard and Free Hit chips, your saved transfers will no longer reset to zero.
That means you can now save five free transfers, then play any of your chips and immediately have five free transfers to use in the following Gameweek.
Mystery Chip
There is a new ‘Mystery Chip’ coming to FPL in 2024/25. However, details regarding what this chip will do have not yet been revealed, so we’ll have to patiently await more information. FPL have stated we will find out about this ‘Mystery Chip’ ahead of January 2025, when it will become playable.
Changes to points-scoring
The number of points received by a goalkeeper for scoring a goal is increasing from six to 10, but the number of bonus points received for saving a penalty is being reduced from 15 to nine.
Other changes to bonus points include:
- Goalkeepers and defenders conceding a goal will be worth -4BPS.
- A goalline clearance will be worth 3BPS.
- A foul won will be worth 1BPS.
- A shot on target will be worth 2BPS.
Other changes coming to FPL are new pitch and player card designs, while there are fewer blank and double gameweeks due to changes in FA Cup scheduling.
