“He’s a really talented player” — Fabinho praises ‘special’ Curtis Jones after recent heroics for Liverpool
Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has labelled team-mate Curtis Jones a “special” player after the academy gem produced a masterclass against Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Once hailed one the finest players to emerge from Liverpool esteemed production line, Jones fell down the pecking order this season to teenage sensation Harvey Elliott, but following the 18-year-old’s horror injury against Leeds United, he has seized his chance to impress Jurgen Klopp.
The 20-year-old missed the opening four Premier League games of this season, either being excluded from the matchday squad, or in the case of the wins over Burnley and Leeds, being an unused substitute, but since Elliott’s ankle injury, he has featured in every game since, including a first start at the weekend.

In that six-goal thriller against newly-promoted Brentford, Jones got his name on the scoresheet with a strike that detonated off his right boot and took a fortuitous deflection past an in-form David Raya, before the Bees restored parity late on in a 3-3 stalemate in London.
Following that performance, Jones was once again given the nod in Liverpool’s Champions League showdown with Porto, and he flourished in midfield, providing two assists and running the show at the Estadio do Dragao as the Reds stormed to a 5-1 victory.
One of his midfield team-mates on the night was Fabinho, and the Brazilian has since spoken in glowing terms of his young team-mate, saying the Liverpool players trust giving him the ball as “he will create something special” every time he gets in possession.
Fabinho told Liverpool’s official website: “He’s a really good player.
“He needed this, to play every three days, it’s important for him for his rhythm.
