Erik ten Hag warned about Man United job by Louis van Gaal
Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal has offered some words of advice to his countryman, Erik ten Hag, as speculation linking Manchester United to the current Ajax head coach increases.
Van Gaal spent two seasons with the Red Devils, winning the FA Cup before being sacked and he knows, more than anyone, just how difficult it can be to succeed at Old Trafford.
The rumours linking ten Hag to Manchester United have been heating up over recent weeks, with interim manager Ralf Rangnick expected to move into a consultancy role at the club at the end of the current campaign.

Van Gaal, when asked about the rumours in a press conference this week, spoke frankly about how time spent at Old Trafford might not be solely positive, urging ten Hag to consider his options.
“Erik ten Hag is a great coach and that is always good for Manchester United,” he answered. “But Manchester United are a commercial club, so it’s a difficult choice for a coach. He would be better going to a football club.”
Ten Hag has spent five seasons at Ajax, leading them to two Eredivisie titles and a Champions League semi final, and many believe his tactical style and man management may be able to return the glory days to Man United, who have now gone almost a decade since lifting the Premier League trophy.
Van Gaal knows the weight of expectation as manager of the English giants however and thinks ten Hag will be in contact with the iconic Dutch manager before he agrees to any contract at Old Trafford.
“I’m not going to advise him, he’ll call me himself. But he must choose a football club and not a commercial club.”
