Borussia Dortmund vs Villarreal live stream: How to watch Friday’s friendly online
Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal continue ramping up for the 2022-23 campaign, with a pre-season friendly at the Cashpoint-Arena on Friday (6pm BST).
After winning each of their first three pre-season friendlies against fellow German sides Luner, Dynamo Dresden and Verl, Dortmund travelled to Austria, where they were beaten 3-1 by Villarreal’s fellow LaLiga outfit Valencia on Monday.
Meanwhile, this will be only a third pre-season outing for the Yellow Submarine, whose preparations began with a 1-1 draw against Portuguese giants Sporting CP. Last season’s Champions League semi-finalists then came from behind to defeat Dutch side PSV Eindhoven 2-1; goals from Yeremy Pino and Nicolas Jackson completing the turnaround.

Borussia Dortmund vs Villarreal team news
Dortmund have had a busy summer in terms of player movement following the arrivals of Sebastien Haller (out of action while receiving treatment for a testicular tumour), Karim Adeyemi, Nico Schlotterbeck, Salih Ozcan, Niklas Sule, Marcel Lotka and Alexander Meyer.
And despite the departure of Erling Haaland to Manchester City, another positive is that Jude Bellingham looks poised to remain at the club despite speculation linking the England international with a move away.
Conversely, Villarreal has seen more activity around the exit than the entrance, with Sergio Asenjo, Ruben Pena, Xavi Quintilla, Alex Millian and Serge Aurier all gone, and only Pepe Reina and Jose Luis Morales – both on free transfers – coming in.
For Dortmund, look for Youssoufa Moukoko to start up front, ahead of the attack-minded trio of Marco Reus, newcomer Adeyemi and Thorgan Hazard.
As for Villarreal, the expectation is that we will initially see an experienced line-up featuring the likes of Gerard Moreno, Arnaut Danjuma, Pino, Samuel Chukwueze and rumoured transfer target Pau Torres.
This is Dortmund’s penultimate tune-up before meaningful action begins. Only a friendly against Turkish side Antalyaspor remains before their DFB-Pokal match against 1860 Munich on July 29, and their Bundesliga opener at home to Bayer Leverkusen the following week.
Villarreal have a bit more time to tune up, as their La Liga campaign does not kick off until August 13. Before that season-opener against Real Valladolid, the Yellow Subarine will square off in friendlies against Premier League sides Southampton and Fulham, as well as Serie A giants Inter Milan.
Borussia Dortmund expected starting lineup: Kobel; Meunier, Hummels, Sule, Guerreiro; Bellingham, Dahoud; Adeyemi, Reus, T Hazard; Moukoko
Villarreal expected starting lineup: Rulli; Foyth, Albiol, P Torres, Pedraza; Pino, Parejo, Coquelin, Chukwueze; G Moreno, Danjuma
Scoreline prediction: Borussia Dortmund 3-2 Villarreal
Between these two sides, Dortmund clearly lost the best individual player this summer, in Haaland. However, they lost little else, and have brought in reinforcements. Villarreal, meanwhile, lost more contributors than did their opponents, and brought in little to restock the roster. They’ll be relying on veteran players whose focus (rightfully) is more on staying healthy while regaining fitness, while looking ahead to meaningful action.
