West Ham vs Arsenal: Predictions
Having come up short at Old Trafford last week in what was a hugely underwhelming display against Manchester United, David Moyes will be aiming to get West Ham’s unexpected top-four aspirations back on track when they welcome another of the so-called ‘Big Six’ to east London this weekend.
Under Moyes, the Hammers have catapulted themselves into the hunt for European football, a feat few thought possible given the club were fighting tooth and nail at this stage last season to claw themselves away from relegation danger. That West Ham are now fifth after 28 games underpins to influence of Moyes in E20.
Arsenal by contrast have been languishing precariously in mid table for most of the campaign, and now sit 10 points adrift of Chelsea in fourth. The gap between Mikel Arteta’s side and the Hammers could be reduced to just four points if the Spaniard outfoxes his Glaswegian counterpart on Sunday.
The Gunners are currently enjoying a recent upturn in form, coming from a goal down to claim north London bragging rights in the derby last week, in which they inflicted a 2-1 blow on arch-rivals Tottenham, before securing their place in the Europa League quarter-finals, despite losing the second leg to Olympiacos 1-0.
West Ham vs Arsenal: Match Stats
There was a palpable lack of attacking intensity to West Ham’s play at Old Trafford last week, and that can largely be attributed to the absence of Jesse Lingard, who was ineligible to take to the field against his parent club, so his availability for this game with come as a huge boost to Moyes.
Under the Scot, Lingard has rejuvenated a career that was in almost complete stasis at Man Utd, scoring four goals in his six league appearances for West Ham, including in each of his last two at the London Stadium, and earning a recall to the England squad as a result.
Against Arsenal as well, Lingard has scored four goals in seven starts against them in all competitions, against no side has he netted more in English football.

25 Aug 2018 – Arsenal 3-1 West Ham – Premier League
This is not a fixture that West Ham particularly relish, winning just three of their 24 Premier League home games against Arsenal. However, their last win on home soil came two seasons ago, which marked a special occasion for the club, with Declan Rice netting his first West Ham goal in what was the club’s 50th Premier League game at the London Stadium.
