Arsenal have capitalised on their Premier League top-four rivals dropping points over the last few games, with Manchester United relinquishing their baton and Tottenham fumbling theirs, but Mikel Arteta will know that, despite their fate now being in their own hands, West Ham represent an awkward match-up.
As Tottenham have slipped up against Brighton and Brentford in the last two games, Arsenal have come through two difficult challenges with merit, first beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge 4-2, before putting Man Utd to the sword last time out in a much-needed 3-1 victory, riding their luck at times as Bruno Fernandes fluffed his lines.
But West Ham should pose a few problems and they’re certainly not out of the European race just yet. David Moyes will have to galvanise his troops following a disheartening first leg defeat to Frankfurt in their Europa League semi-final. Top four, although not mathematically out of reach, is all but gone for the Hammers, but a top-six finish remains a possibility.
Given their better goal difference over Man Utd, should the Hammers win this match, they would leapfrog the Red Devils having played a game less. But, the question for Moyes now is whether to rotate ahead of next week’s trip to Frankfurt, or keep the foot on the pedal with so much still at stake in the Premier League.

West Ham vs Arsenal match stats
Bukayo Saka has played like a man possessed this season, thoroughly cementing his status as a generational talent in north London and showing his mental fortitude after last summer’s penalty troubles at Euro 2020. This season he is Arsenal’s top goalscorer in the Premier League (11) and enters this particular showdown having notched in consecutive games. In the reverse fixture at the Emirates, he thoroughly rinsed West Ham’s full-backs, teeing up Emile Smith Rowe for the club’s second in a fairly straightforward 2-0 win. In fact, Saka has scored a penalty in his last two games, the youngest player ever to score from the spot in consecutive Premier League appearances. The only Arsenal player to score a penalty in three consecutive Premier League games is Ian Wright in March 1994.

West Ham have lost more Premier League games against Arsenal (33) than they have versus any other club in the competition, with the latest coming in north London as Moyes’ men faltered 2-0, with Vladimir Coufal seeing red, Gabriel Martinelli breaking the deadlock and Smith Rowe putting the gloss on a comfortable win.
