Man City vs Sheffield United: Predictions
Thanks to their 5-0 win over West Brom on Tuesday, Man City finished a day top of the Premier League for the first time this season, leapfrogging rivals Manchester United. Pep Guardiola’s side were ruthless in their win at the Hawthorns, putting in a performance indicative of the progress they have made over the past few months.
Although they haven’t suffered many lows, Man City were already being ruled out of the Premier League title race by some early in the season, dropping as low as ninth on two separate occasions. However, since a disappointing 1-1 draw with West Brom in mid-December, Man City have gone on an 11-game winning run across all competitions, including seven in the Premier League to take their place top of the table with a game in hand.
The other reason Man City are still top of the league going into this weekend’s game is that Man Utd dropped points the following day, losing to Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United. It was a result no one expected to come, as most fans were watching and waiting for the Red Devils to return to the top of the table, but it was a stellar performance from the Blades.
Sheffield United’s recent record now reads two wins in their past three Premier League games, having finally got off the mark two weeks ago against Newcastle United, and they have now been saved from infamy, moving clear of Derby’s league-low record of one victory in a season. The next goal will be to move past Derby’s worst points record of 11 points, which would be another step towards safety, though Sheffield United are still 10 points away from 17th-placed Brighton.

Man City vs Sheffield United: Match Stats
By his own high standards, Raheem Sterling hasn’t had the best season in front of goal, scoring just six times. However, unfortunately for Sheffield United, two of those goals have come in his past three Premier League games and, with Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero out, Sterling will be looking to get involved even more.
Despite scoring twice in the win at Old Trafford, Sheffield United remain the worst team in the Premier League in front of goal, scoring just 12 times in their opening 20 matches. But, perhaps even worse for the Blades, they face the best defence in the Premier League in Man City, who have conceded just 13 times (five coming in one game against Leicester City). And they’re in good form too, keeping eight clean sheets in their past 11 Premier League matches.
