Although they sit just outside the Championship play-off spots Nottingham Forest have lit up the FA Cup this season. A third round win over Arsenal at home (1-0) was followed up by eliminating the defending champions Leicester City at The City Ground, Steve Cooper’s men ran out impressive 4-1 winners, it was less straightforward next time out against divisional rivals Huddersfield Town (2-1).
Having claimed the League Cup last month, by defeating Chelsea on penalties, Liverpool are seeking to complete a domestic cup double this season. Jurgen Klopp’s men have played their previous FA Cup rounds at home: brushing aside Shrewsbury Town (4-1), Cardiff City (3-1) and Norwich City (2-1) respectively. This will be their first FA Cup road game since a 3-2 loss at Man Utd in January 2021.

Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool: Match Stats
This is the first time Forest will play in the FA Cup quarter-final round since the 1995/96 campaign; back then Aston Villa would get the better of them, running out 0-1 winners at the City Ground. Forest have won this competition on two previous occasions: 1897/98 and 1958/59. Their last final appearance came in 1991, led by legendary manager Brian Clough; it’s the one piece of domestic silverware that eluded him. In nine previous FA Cup meetings with Liverpool they’ve managed one win: a 0-2 success during the 1894/95 edition.
Like the great Clough this is the one trophy Klopp is missing from his collection. This round marks the furthest the Reds have gone in this competition under Klopp’s leadership. Liverpool last reached the FA Cup semi-final in 2014/15 under Brendan Rodgers. Klopp’s away record in the FA Cup isn’t the greatest: across eight previous road games they’ve picked up two wins (0-1 at Plymouth Argyle and 1-4 at Aston Villa).
