Japan will be making their seventh consecutive World Cup appearance in Qatar.

Despite their continental successes Japan have flattered to deceive at the World Cup level. Since consistently quaflying from the 1998 edition onwards they’ve alternated between a Group Stage and Round of 16 exit with their statistically best tournament performance being in 2002 when they co-hosted with South Korea.

Can they finally reach the quarter finals or will it be another early exit?
