Burnley vs Liverpool: Predictions
Burnley were humiliated on the weekend at home to Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United. The Yorkshire side dispatched of Sean Dyche’s side in a stunning second-half rout which saw them score three goals within the space of 20 minutes. Ultimately, no harm was done for the Clarets apart from a dent in their pride given their Premier League status is safe for another season.
Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, stole the headlines on the weekend with the Brazilian shot-stopper heading home the winning goal in their 2-1 victory against West Brom on Sunday afternoon. With the game tied in stoppage time, the 28-year-old offered an extra body for a Liverpool corner and found himself on the end of the cross – but we do not fancy his chances of scoring again on Wednesday night.
Champions League football is still very much a possibility for the Reds this season with the win over the Baggies on Sunday taking Klopp’s men to just one point adrift of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea. Given their horrific season in relation to the standards set by themselves over the last couple of years, a spot in the top four would definitely be a relief for all involved at Anfield.
Back in January, it was Sean Dyche’s side who ended Liverpool’s incredible 68-game unbeaten run at Anfield. Ashley Barnes’ late penalty proved enough for the Clarets to prevail, but Klopp will have the perfect opportunity to get his revenge as they aim to strengthen their fight for a spot in the top four.
Burnley vs Liverpool: Match Stats
Mohamed Salah is fighting away at the top of the goalscorers chart alongside Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane with both forwards eyeing the Golden Boot trophy. The two forwards have been among the top two goalscorers over the last few years in the English top-flight and with both on 22 goals for the campaign, Salah will be hoping to edge his way in front of the England captain.
Thiago Alcantara showed his class in the victory on the weekend with a dominant display in the midfield. The Spaniard completed 96 successful passes (more than any other player) and four successful tackles which was more than any other player in red. Burnley have shown in recent weeks they can provide an attacking threat and in front of their fans, Thiago could be in for a busier afternoon at Turf Moor.
