Spain vs France predictions, odds, betting tips and team news

Spain lock horns with France in a blockbuster Nations League semi-final in Stuttgart on Thursday 5th June at 8pm (UK time). Two of Europe’s heavyweights go head to head with the aim of progressing to Sunday’s final, where Germany or Portugal await.

Spain and BTTS (9/2 with Sky Bet)

Spain are unbeaten in each of their last 18 matches, since a 1-0 defeat by Colombia in March 2024. Although, La Roja have kept just three clean sheets from a possible 12. This should be another rip roaring match between two quality sides and we can see both getting on the scoresheet. Home advantage could be key though and we think Spain will come out on top in a high scoring affair.

Kylian Mbappe to score anytime (11/5 with Betway)

Spain’s recent tendency not to keep clean sheets could play into the hands of the in-form Mbappe, who enjoyed a blistering finish to his club season, with 10 goals in Real Madrid’s last six games. The French forward has shown his class this season, breaking numerous records and it wouldn’t be a big shock here to see him get his name on the scoresheet.

How both teams go into Spain vs France

Spain have built on the momentum of their Euro 2024 triumph, and have the chance to win continental titles in successive years. La Roja collected 16 points from a possible 18 in Group A4, though they required a penalty shootout to overcome the Netherlands in the Nations League quarter-finals.

Spain last experienced a loss 18 games ago, in a friendly against Colombia, and they’ve drawn only three games since that point, showing their class by beating the likes of Italy, Germany and England.

France recovered from an opening defeat against Italy to eventually top Group A2 ahead of the Azzurri on goal difference. Les Bleus were also forced to bounce back in the quarter-finals, overturning a 2-0 first-leg deficit to edge out Croatia on penalties.

France have lost three of their last nine games as they struggle to live up to their billing as the best in the world. Those losses came against Croatia, Italy and Spain highlighting how they’ve struggled to beat the bigger nations in recent times.

Spain team news

Isco, who led Real Betis to the Conference League final, returns to Spain’s squad after a six-year absence, while Gavi is back for the first time since 2023. Pau Cubarsi returns after injury, but Inigo Martinez, Ferran Torres and Ayoze Perez are among those who miss out.

France team news

Kylian Mbappe will lead France’s charge, while Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki could earn his first cap. William Saliba, Eduardo Camavinga, Dayot Upamecano and Jules Kounde are among those who will miss out through injury.

Spain vs France head to head

The last four meetings between the nations have been shared with two wins apiece. France prevailed 2-1 in the 2020-21 Nations League final, while Spain were victorious by the same scoreline in last year’s European Championship semi-finals.
