How both teams go into Man City vs Newcastle

After appearing to turn a corner, Man City are once again licking their wounds after a 5-1 thumping at the hands of Arsenal. That’s left Pep Guardiola’s men fifth in the Premier League table, two points adrift of Chelsea. They overcame a scare against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup but fell short in a 3-2 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

By contrast, Newcastle bounced back from a 2-1 defeat at home to Fulham by beating Arsenal 2-0 in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, securing an emphatic 4-0 aggregate win to book their place at Wembley. The Magpies are level on points with City in the table right now, only below them on goals scored.

Man City team news

Jack Grealish and Manuel Akanji are both major doubts for this match, though Guardiola will hope to have both of them on the bench. Rodri is out for the season.

Newcastle team news

Dan Burn and Sven Botman are both doubts for this match, but Joelinton is definitely out.

Man City vs Newcastle head-to-head

Man City have lost just one of their last 14 meetings with Newcastle across all competitions, although the Magpies did come from behind to secure a 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park in their previous meeting this campaign.
