Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa: Predictions
Crystal Palace enter the game on Sunday with just three games remaining of their 2020/21 campaign. The future of manager Roy Hodgson is still unknown with the 73-year-old’s contract with the south London side coming to an end this summer. On the field, the Eagles have nothing apart from pride and 12th spot in the league table.
Villa’s hopes of a place in Europe have all but faded away since the injury sustained by Jack Grealish with the Claret and Blues’ form dipping in his absence. Villa’s draw against Everton on Thursday night wasn’t what they would have hoped for going into the game, but Smith’s side was boosted by the return of Jack Grealish who 18 minutes into his legs.
The Eagles have endured a rotten spell of form with four league defeats in their last five games. Defeats against Chelsea, Leicester City, Manchester City and Southampton sandwiched their 2-0 victory over the league’s bottom side, Sheffield United.
Hodgson’s side cant even look back to the previous meeting between these two sides for a crumb of comfort with Villa emphatically beating the Londoners 3-0 at Villa Park. Palace will go into the game with the odds stacked against them but will hope Eberechi Eze and Wilfried Zaha can showcase their magic at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa: Match Stats
Aston Villa held a dangerous Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Everton side to a 0-0 draw during the week and that earned goalkeeper Emi Martinez his 15th clean sheet of the 2020/21 campaign. Against a Palace side who have only scored eight in their last 10 league games, Martinez will have his sights on another clean sheet.
Matt Targett has been in sensational form this season for Smith’s side. The full-back has made more successful tackles than any other Villa player this season with 77 to his name. Although Villa go into the game as favourites, having played on Thursday night may hinder their game plan and they may be forced to defend more than they would like.

22 August 2015 – Crystal Palace 2-1 Aston Villa (Premier League)

Away sides have not had much luck in recent meetings between these two sides, with five of the past six Premier League matches ending in home victories. Aston Villa were the last team to win away in this fixture, in December 2014, but there may be slightly more significance about Crystal Palace’s last win at Villa Park.
However, we fancy Villa to add to Palace’s recent poor run with an away victory at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
