Best FIFA Men’s Player: Can you guess the missing player these footballers voted for in 2020?

Robert Lewandowski missed out on the 2021 Ballon d’Or but he has a chance to retain his Best FIFA Men’s Player crown on Monday night.

The annual award has been about since 2016 after taking over from the now-defunct ‘FIFA World Player of the Year’, and has naturally been claimed by some of the biggest names modern football has to offer.

Voted for by journalists, national team coaches and national team captains, it’s always pretty fun to see where some players’ affiliations lie. As much as we like to believe votes are made purely on merit, politics and bias naturally play a part in the decision-making process for some footballers.

It is not unheard of to see Real Madrid players forget Lionel Messi exists, or for players to vote for their teammates simply because they have to look them in the eye on Monday morning. And let’s face it, it’s basically sacrosanct for national team coaches to vote for those in their squad (if any make the shortlist).

So, cast your minds back to 2020 and see if you can remember how some of these prominent footballers voted. Robert Lewandowski ultimately won the award, but not everyone ticked the Pole’s box.
