Arnaut Danjuma has described himself as “one of the best wingers in the world” after his blistering start to life at Villarreal.
The six-capped Netherlands international has begun his career at the Estadio de la Ceremica like a house on fire, marking his maiden campaign for Unai Emery’s men with 13 goals in 28 games across all competitions, which makes him the club’s current top scorer.
Danjuma is now preparing himself to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals, a scenario he perhaps wouldn’t have envisaged when he was slogging it out in the Championship with Bournemouth last season, though he has taken to Europe’s elite tournament like a duck to water.

The 25-year-old put the gloss on Villarreal’s 3-0 win over Juventus in Turin in the second leg of their last-16 tie, netting a 92nd-minute penalty to sink the Italian giants. He will now be looking to produce another European upset when the Bavarian beast that is Bayern visit Villarreal on Wednesday night.
In light of his rapid ascent for The Yellow Submarine, Danjuma has now bracketed himself among the game’s very elite in his position, believing he is currently operating at a level that makes hime ‘one of the best wingers in the world’.
“If we look at what I’ve done this season it’s quite fair and factual to say I’m among the best wingers in the world,” he told The Guardian.

“To be the best you need to aim for more, and there’s so much I still want to achieve. I’ve made mistakes so there’s so much for me to develop. I think I’m in a good place at the moment – 25, at Villarreal, playing in the Champions League.
“We’ve got a good team and La Liga is an amazing league. But I’m not done yet. It begins with believing in yourself.”
