What happened in the first fight?
The first fight on 9th May at Co-op Live in Manchester was one of the heavyweight fights of the year. Wardley was the defending champion and dropped Dubois with a right hook inside the first 10 seconds. He then put him down again in the third round.
However, Dubois got up both times and took over. He landed 179 punches to Wardley’s 97 and came close to a stoppage in the sixth round. Eventually, referee Howard Foster stopped the fight 28 seconds into the 11th round, handing Wardley the first defeat of his professional career.
Since then, Wardley has activated his rematch clause, and his team have called for “a stronger referee” this time. Meanwhile, Dubois has made it clear the two are not friends.
