Haaland is under contract at Manchester City until 2034. However, speculation about his future has grown since it was reported on 25 September that an independent commission had found City guilty of 114 of the 115 Premier League financial charges against them.
Sanctions have not yet been decided, and City are widely expected to appeal. Even so, bookmakers have now priced up a move, and Real Madrid lead the way.

Erling Haaland next club: Why is he linked with a move?
The main reason is the uncertainty at City. The commission’s verdict was reported on 25 September, and possible sanctions range from a fine to a heavy points deduction. A separate hearing will decide the punishment, so it could be months before City know where they stand.
Meanwhile, reports in England and Spain say Real Madrid and Barcelona are monitoring the situation. They see the summer of 2027 as a possible chance to sign him. Arsenal have also been linked.
Does Haaland have a release clause?
Haaland signed a new contract in January 2025 that runs until 2034. When the deal was announced, reports said the release clauses in his old contract had been removed.
Spanish outlet Sport has since reported that there is no clause letting him leave automatically if City are relegated. As a result, any move would still need City to agree a fee.
