Arsenal
Arsenal’s pre-seasons preparations for their Premier League title defence have started well. Mikel Arteta’s troops beat League One side MK Dons 3-0 in a behind-closed-doors clash at the Sobha Realty Training Centre, thanks to goals from Reiss Nelson, Ethan Nwaneri, and Ceadach O’Neill.
Arsenal then travelled to Spain where they cruised to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Girona, which saw Kai Havertz, new signing Christos Tzolis, the impressive Max Dowman, and Gabriel Jesus all get on the scoresheet.
Arsenal will now look to make it three wins from three against Betis ahead of the Emirates Cup and then the Community Shield against Man City on Sunday 16th August.
Real Betis
Real Betis enjoyed a superb 2025/26 season, finishing 5th in La Liga, which earned them a return to the Champions League for the first time in 21 years.
El Glorioso picked up four wins and just one defeat from their final seven games, form which they’ve taken into their pre-season with four wins from five games so far.
Manuel Pellegrini, who previously led Man City to Premier League glory, has overseen summer victories against Lotte, Recreativo de Huelva, Lyon, and Almeria, with their only defeat coming against Granada.
Arsenal team news
As is often the case during pre-season, Mikel Arteta has rotated his squad to build fitness and assess his options ahead of the new campaign. Kepa Arrizabalaga has started both friendlies in goal and is expected to retain his place, while Cristhian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri, Max Dowman, and Christos Tzolis have all featured from the start in Arsenal’s opening two victories.
Dowman and Tzolis have been among the standout performers so far and will be eager to continue their impressive form in Dublin. Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres also look set for more minutes after both started against Girona, although their appearances were limited to 30 minutes as Arteta carefully managed their workloads.
Gabriel could make his return at some stage on Wednesday, but William Saliba is unavailable, while Jurrien Timber is a doubt after returning to London with a groin problem. Arsenal will also remain without their England and Spain internationals, who are still enjoying their extended summer break following international commitments.

Arsenal will come up against a familiar face in Hector Bellerin, with the former Gunners right-back set to face his old club after making 183 appearances during his time in north London.
