Ecuador vs Germany

  • Ecuador key stat: La Tricolor could become the first South American country to exit the World Cup without scoring since Bolivia in 1950.
  • Germany key stat: DFB go hunting for a national record equalling 12th successive win.

Germany have already wrapped up top spot in Group E, so now they go in search of a third straight group stage win for the first time since they hosted the 2006 tournament.

Victory over Ecuador would also see Julian Nagelsmann and co make history by securing a national record equalling 12th successive win, which would draw the current crop of players level with the team of 1979 to 1989.

Germany scored the most goals (nine) in the tournament, three of which were scored by substitute Deniz Undav, who also has two assists, with those five goal involvements coming in the space of just 56 minutes of play so far. With changes expected in the Germany ranks, the 29-year-old will be hoping for his first start of the tournament.

But, games involving Ecuador are rarely goal-fests with 20 of their last 24 games containing under 2.5 goals, including both of their matches in Group E so far.

Ecuador scored just 14 goals in 18 qualifying games and have so far been both frustrated and wasteful in North America, picking one up one point and failing to score from any of their 16 shots on target.

Nothing other than a win will do in New York.

Curacao vs Ivory Coast

  • Curacao key stat: The Blue Wave are chasing their first ever World Cup win which could see them become the lowest-ranked team (83rd in the rankings when they entered the tournament) to ever progress into the knockout stages.
  • Ivory Coast key stat: The Elephants can make history by reaching the World Cup knockout stages for the first time.

Ivory Coast, despite an agonising late 2-1 loss to Germany, still find themselves in a favourable position heading into their final game against Curacao – needing just to avoid defeat in order to secure a top-2 spot.

Do that and the Elephants will reach the World Cup knockout stages for the first time in their history. They will of course want to book that spot with another three points as they chase multiple wins at a single World Cup for the first time.

Ivory Coast vs Ecuador stats and analysis: Diallo strikes late and Diomande dazzles against blunt La Tri

Curacao have scored their first goal and picked up their first point on their World Cup debut, now they go in search of their first win, which would set up a stunning venture into the last-32 – if successful in their quest they will become the lowest ranked country (83rd in the rankings when they entered the tournament) to reach the knockout stages.

Goalkeeper Eloy Room made a World Cup 2026 high 19 saves across two games, including a staggering 15 saves to keep out Ecuador in a goalless draw in one of the most remarkable keeping displays in World cup history. He will no doubt be called upon again tonight as his country chases more history.
