Premier League stats and records you might have missed from Gameweek 37

Arsenal won the Premier League title, Aston Villa booked their spot in next season’s Champions League, Bournemouth will be in Europe too, Bruno Fernandes registered a record-equalling assist, and the battle for survival will go down to the final day in what proved to be an entertaining penultimate gameweek.

Read on for the best of the statistics:

Arsenal win the title

  • Arsenal have won their first Premier League title in 22 years, after they were crowned English champions for the 14th time.

Arsenal beat Burnley 1-0 on Monday thanks to a first-half header from Kai Havertz, which proved pivotal as the Gunners were then crowned champions on Tuesday after Manchester City failed to win away to Bournemouth.

It’s Arsenal’s first Premier League title in 22 years (since 2003-04) and the 14th time they’ve been champions of England – only Liverpool and Manchester United have won more (both 20).

In the process, Mikel Arteta has become the 13th different manager to lift the Premier League trophy and the second youngest manager (44 years & 54 days) to win after Jose Mourinho (42 years & 92 days).

Cherries in Europe

  • Bournemouth stretched their unbeaten Premier League run to a club-record 17 matches and, in the process, sealed qualification for European football next season.

Manchester City scored a 95th minute equaliser away to Bournemouth but it wasn’t enough as the 1-1 draw meant Arsenal won the title, meaning Pep Guardiola has now gone two years without a league title for the first time in his managerial career.

As for Bournemouth, they not only extended their club record unbeaten run to 17 Premier League matches but have secured European football next season. They even have a very outside chance of grabbing a Champions League spot!

Chelsea’s favourite fixture

  • Chelsea have now beaten Tottenham 39 times in the Premier League, more than any opponent they’ve faced.

Chelsea celebrated the news that Xabi Alonso will be taking over in the summer by recording a first win in eight matches. The Blues held on to beat rivals Tottenham 2-1, meaning Spurs’ fight for survival will go into the final day (they are two points ahead of West Ham).

After all, this is a fixture that Chelsea are well accustomed to winning, having now beating Spurs in 39 Premier League matches – including the last six in a row – which is the most they’ve beaten an opponent in the competition.

Spurs have now won only one of their last 36 away games against Chelsea, 24 of which they’ve lost.

Bruno: Creator-in-chief

  • Only three players have ever created more chances in a Premier League season than Bruno Fernandes (132 and counting).

Bruno Fernandes matched the Premier League’s single-season assist record after setting up Bryan Mbeumo in Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest. His 20th assist of the campaign saw him draw level with Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry, while also putting him eight clear of any other player in the division this season. With one game remaining – away at Brighton – Fernandes now has the chance to set a new outright record.

Dig a little deeper and you’ll find that Fernandes has created 132 chances in the Premier League this season, at least 58 more than any other player. Only three players have recorded more in a single campaign: Mesut Ozil (146 in 2015/16), De Bruyne (136 in 2019/20), and Frank Lampard (134 in 2008/09).

Man United also maintained one of the league’s most remarkable records. They have never lost a Premier League home match after leading at half-time – a run now stretching to 334 games, made up of 308 wins and 26 draws. Predating the Premier League, that unbeaten sequence stretches back to August 1984, and spans 400 matches.

As for Morgan Gibbs-White, the in-form midfielder once again got on the scoresheet, netting his 14th Premier League goal of the season, and the milestone 1,000th scored in the Premier League this season.

Hapless Hammers

  • West Ham are winless across their last 105 Premier League games when trailing by 2+ goals at half-time (D4 L101).

West Ham still have the opportunity to avoid relegation despite a damaging 3-1 defeat to Newcastle.

West Ham endured a nightmare start, going down 2-0 at the break, meaning they are now winless across their last 105 Premier League games when trailing by 2+ goals at half-time (D4 L101).

Newcastle, meanwhile, have still never lost a home Premier League game after leading by 2+ goals, extending that unbeaten run to 27 matches.

The game also saw Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes become the only midfielder to win 10+ duels, make 5+ tackles, win 5+ fouls, and commit 5+ fouls in a Premier League game across the last 10 seasons.

Acrobatic Adam

  • Adam Wharton scored his first goal for Crystal Palace from his 81st shot in his 94th appearance for the club.

Adam Wharton scored his first Crystal Palace goal and marked it with one of the celebrations of the season in an entertaining 2-2 draw against Brentford. The belated goal came from Wharton’s 81st shot in his 94th appearance for Palace; only Jesus Navas has ever had more shots (85) in the Premier League without scoring.

It’s also surprisingly the first goal scored by a Palace player starting in central midfield in a Premier League game since Oliver Glasner took over.

Ismaila Sarr had earlier opened the scoring from the penalty spot, which was his 21st goal of the season for Crystal Palace in all competitions, which is the joint-most by an Eagles player alongside Andy Johnson.

Sunderland never say die

  • Sunderland have gained more points from losing positions than any other side in the Premier League this season (22).

Comeback kings Sunderland recovered from going a goal down to beat Everton 3-1 on Merseyside. The win moved the Black Cats up to 9th and they could end the season 7th, which would be an absolutely superb achievement.

Sunderland have now accumulated more points from losing positions than any other side in the Premier League this season, with their tally of 22, putting them two points ahead of Villa in this metric.

Leaky Liverpool

  • Liverpool have now conceded 52 league goals this term, which is their most in a 38-game league season since 1914-15.

Aston Villa registered their first league win against Liverpool in 11 meetings since the famous 7-2 thrashing back in October 2020. Inspired by a brace from Ollie Watkins, Villa claimed a deserved 4-2 win to confirm their place in next season’s Champions League.

For Liverpool, the defeat leaves their own top-5 hopes hanging in the balance. Arne Slot’s side have now conceded 52 Premier League goals this season; their highest total in a 38-game campaign since 1914-15. Remarkably, Arsenal are the only team that failed to score against them in the league this term.

It was Liverpool’s 12th league defeat of the season; more than the 2023-24 (4) and 2024-25 (4) seasons combined (8).

Late Leeds loving life

  • Leeds are enjoying their best unbeaten run in the Premier League (8 games) since they went undefeated in 13 matches between May and November 2001.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck deep into stoppage time to hand Leeds a dramatic 96th-minute winner against Brighton at Elland Road. It took the striker to 14 Premier League goals for the season: the joint-highest tally among English players alongside Ollie Watkins and Morgan Gibbs-White.

The victory continues Leeds’ remarkable late-season surge. Daniel Farke’s side, now up to 14th, are unbeaten in eight league matches and could still break into the top-half if results elsewhere fall in their favour. It also marked Leeds’ third consecutive Premier League home win; something they had not achieved since 2001.

Mane echoes Ronaldo

  • Mateus Mane became the first Portuguese player to score 3+ goals from outside the box in a single season since Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2003-04.

Mateus Mane produced a stunning finish from the edge of the box in Wolves’ 1-1 with Fulham at Molineux. The strike saw him become the first Portuguese player since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2003-04 to score three or more goals from outside the area in a single Premier League season.

Fulham salvaged a point through Antonee Robinson, who netted his first-ever Premier League goal in his 157th appearance in the competition.
